retro-fit aircon?

My Cerb does not have air-con. Even in the recent hot weather this has not been a big issue, as I tend to drive with the window down, to get as much of a "roof down" feel as possible (ex Grif owner) Anyway, having seen most of the bits for the aircon system for sale in the classified, I am wondering if it is worth fitting, but in the back of my mind, I seem to remember someone telling me once that the crank is different on a car with aircon. Does anyone know if this is the case? Looking at the front of the engine, there is no pulley to run the compressor off, just a blanking plate where youu would expect the pulley to be, so it makes sense that a longer crank may be needed, which makes the project a no-go.

You can still get air con in your beast.

You can have a compressor running off the waterpump/oil pump/pas assembly, you would need a new jackshaft developed with a gearing to suit the particular compressor you go for. (the new jackshaft would need to be very strong and the gear drive should keep compressor load away from the shaft if setup correctly with a torque-slipping spacer.

The other way would be to modify the alternator attachment so that the alternator and the compressor can be chained together effectivily.

I think you'd be looking at around £1500-2k all in from someone like TVRCraft to do the job.

Thanks for the advice SXS. I think I will stick with opening the window for the moment, and sort handling etc first. After all, if I can stop it jumping around all over the shop on the twisty stuff, I won't be working up such a sweat!

It my bits for sale and I've also got the crank gear & seals you need for fitting. If you want it all I'd accept a lot less than I'm selling each bit for.
