Data Logger Gadget

A friend has just lent me one of the old GTech performance monitors - hilarious - have managed to measure a 0-60 time of 4.5secs so far in my Cerb. I'm thinking of buying one and this is where I'm getting a bit stuck.

The GTech is fairly limited as its a few years out of date but there is a new version out now (GTech Pro RR - see www.gtechpro.com) for about 170 quid which log g-forces, acceleration/braking etc to a PC. The only sight downside is that it is accelerometer based and some of the other data loggers e.g. Race Technologies DL1 (www.race-technology.com) are GPS based so they will map a track out while you drive around it for example.

I'm after a unit that is plug and play - I don't want to have to start wiring it in which you have to do with some data loggers. Can anyone recommend a good data logger in the £200-£500 range that is easy to fit and has decent PC software to look at the data?

Go for the race technology AX22 unit...

It's really really easy to use, is capable of storing huge amounts of data (with a CF slot) and provides very accurate data.

In addition to that, the software for interogating the machine is free from RT...

Thanks for the replies - Race Technology it is then. Any thoughts on the pros and cons of an AX22 retro fitted with a GPS unit or a DL1? I like the idea of not having to mess about with wiring (the AX22) but what is the downside compared with a DL1? How difficult is a DL1 to fit?

The DL1 wont need any wiring as such unless you gonna plug up a screen and more sensors to it etc, but the advantage of the DL1 is the fact it can store a shit load of data for you (more samples per second), I'd only recommend the DL1 if you're HEAVILY into racing.... otherwise the AX22 is superb mate, no need to spend the extra dosh.

The AX22 samples GPS at 5 times a second, whereas the DL1 samples considerably more. Either way, your figures accuracy will be well below the 0.xxx error margin... so go for the AX22! You can still download the data off that too, plus it has a nice visual screen built in at no extra cost...
