I say get the tweeter as close to the mid range as possible. Ideally in the door card. However assuming though that you don't want to mess about with the door cards, I'd suggest sneaking the tweeters just below the dash and sandwiched against the door seal.
If you want the crossovers hidden, then there's space behind the dash, where a glovebox would normally be. They may even fit within the door card, as the focal crossovers are quite small (I have a set in my Pug), They're a great sounding speaker.

I used Focals in mine; I put the tweeters in the doors just above the door release button.
I removed the inner door skins, carefully drilled the rear of the skin with a hole cutter then cut the leather. Then folded it back into the hole and mounted the tweeters through.
There is enough of a cavity in the door skins to mount the crossovers - remove the inner bit from the skins by taking out the several allen screws, wrap the crossover in a bit of foam and jam it in.
Let me know if you'd like photos of the finished article, it looks good and works very well.

The interference I get is from the hot/cold fans, when on low. When they are blowing full, there is none at all. Puzzling, but i'll live with it.

Do you have a sub-bass fitted? I have Focal 8" unit mounted in the usual place, fed by an amp mounted in that recess under the fusebox in the boot.
The bass unit really sorted out the sound.
You might be able to fix the interference from the fans by fitting a capacitor across the fan supply, close to the fans; the best value depends on what sort of noise you're getting, a high value like 470uF if its a crackle or lower if its a whine, like 1uF or so. Make sure the caps are enough voltage, at least 25v.

10" JL where yours is, and a Genesis profile 4 amp in the boot, fastened to the inner n/s wing.
