I subscribe to a US website who follow Mopar engine buikls.
As you probably know, next year the Corvette will come with
an option of a Dry Sump, flat-plane crank, DOHC, fv/c motor.
They have just been hit with a Gas-Guzzler Tax !
Just thought I'd post this to let you shiver in your respective timbers....

It's not really that big of deal when you look at the affected vehicles.
- Bugatti Chiron Pur Sport 9mpg - $7700 isn't going to stop anyone from buying it
- Bentley Continental GT Speed Convertible 14mpg - $5400....not a deal breaker when you're talking a $300+k car
- Rolls Royce Cullinan 14mpg - Rappers are the only ones buying these and they don't ask questions
- M3 Competition & Cadillac CT4 V 18mpg - only $2600 but this could influence some buyers. Doubtful though.

Nothing reasonable about it, there are many car lovers that will borrow money to buy the car of their dreams, those same people will not be able to pay the tax
Bye bye my dream car for many innit
It's not stopping anyone I know from buying any car. No one that is spending $3,600,000+ million is going to be bothered by $7700. Just not happening. Bye bye my dream car for many innit
I agree the tax is complete BS, nor is the tax is right, but at the same time, like everything government does, it is ineffective if they think it is going to stop someone from buying the car they truly want. I should shut up because they'll raise the tax.
Even the Cadillac CT V4 is 15 mpg city/23 mpg hwy so they'll hit you at 19mpg, but in reality it is an $80,000+ car. That's not stopping anyone I know from buying it.
The UK is no different. The first year's road tax for a Jaguar F-Type 5.0 V8 is £2015 or about $2,250 depending on the exchange rate, which is currently terrible, normally the exchange rate is far higher, so the amount in US$ is normally higher.
The same F-Type in the USA is rated at 18 mpg, so the tax will be $2,600.

We don’t currently have any road tax of any kind (Ontario Canada).
They used to charge a flat fee (for all cars) of ~£80 per year. But currently, the provincial Conservative party promised to abolish road tax if they got elected and they did. But I’m sure it will be back soon.
In any case, I’d sooner pay exorbitant road taxes than be 3000 miles from my nearest TVR specialist - the folks who are importing into the US are brave.
