Doing some post blitzing check in the engine bay at the weekend and noticed one of the lovely purple air inlets had come away from the top of the cylinder head?

I have fudged it back on, having to squeeze my fingers in between the opposing tubes...but I am not confident it will stay there.

I am a little worried as to debris getting in there...and obviously not getting the correct air supply.

Anyone had this problem? and is there a way to tighten up the ring that holds the rubber tube on - bearing in mind how tight they are together.

Oh also seems as the second one from the back is rubbing and wearing out - I assume on the bottom side of the bonnet........should I worry?

From what I remember there are 3 positions that the clip can be in. You could try to tighten this up to the next setting but you need a special tool, so try a dealer or indy, at least you'll save your patiance and your fingers.

DON'T use jubilee clips however tempted you are.

As for wear on the No.2 pipe on the bonnet, it is quite common for some of the pipes to rub especially when they are new and holding their shape better.

I expect that the pipes will need replacing far before their demise due to the rubbing. (Approx 10,000 miles or 3 years of driving)

Got me worried now,

having replaced one of the poorly ( dealer) fitted inlet clips with a nice tidy shiny worm drive clip ( not jubilee , but same principal) some 3000 miles ago, wondering why I shouldn`t have done it??

Is there a danger of crushing the tube that the hose fits over?

Yep. That's what prompted me to go for the ACT induction kit, my airbox backplates were in a very sorry state.

Why were you given the advice to not use jubilee clips?

if the air box is collapsing it's beacause of overtightening combined with the heat from the exhaust manifolds directly below.

you can repair the boxes using steel tube inserts .. i used to do this regularly on cars that had been through the dealer network and man-handled badly .. takes about and hour so no more and 60-100 pounds to make them better than new again.

No objection to jubilee clips if used properly, although I guess the point is you can't over tighten clips with fixed positions. No big surprise to hear about the mauling of the cars in the wrong hands.
