Speed Six - Volume Deficiency
Discussion
As great as my Speed Six sounds, it just isn't loud enough especially when considering some of the modified TVR's we've got on our TVR Power Tour in September. Does anyone have an effective and not too expensive way of opening the Speed Six's vocals up a bit more? Obviously, I will ask Dom at TVR Power but wanted to get a general consensus.
Hmmm, had a talk about this a while back, if you're willing to spend a few extra bob, you could get short headers with a merge collector with a straight-thru exhaust system banged on...
Or an even easier way, replace the exhaust system with 3.5" straight pipes....
I'd suggest the first option, obviously there are drawbacks due to loss of header tune resulting in torque/bhp differences.... but well worth it if you want real meaty noises roaring out the arrse...

I thought the Speed Six didn't have the same sports exhaust option as the 4.2 and 4.5 - have I got this wrong?
What I've suggested is strictly for the straight-6, it would be a custom job... you could use a number of companies to get the headers made up, and you could use the likes of Top Gear to make the exhaust system up for you.

Sorry, my comment was in response to CiderwithCerbie's posting. Cheers for your suggestions.

Talk to Dom, the sports exhausts they supply will definately be loud enough!

talk to tim at ACT, he set me up with a sports zorst and its never sounded better ![]()
top chap too.
Decatt and sports exhaust will do it. However, speak to dom as the std speed six will suffer from a flat spot at 3000rpm in the torque, and the loss of back pressure can also affect the running of the engine; running lean, valve burn, lack or pressure to help shut the valves etc etc.
Dom does do a different chip to help compensate this however...
