I have NEVER heard my alarm go off

The dealer and girlfrind gave me a strange look when I alarmed the car and gave it a hard shove, to see how sensitive the alarm was.
The last time I disconneced the battery (alarm went crazy, no sound, but it wouldnt let me in) and reconnected it, I (unlike everyone here?!) didnt hear a peep.
ive never heard it. And Ive cocked it up a dozen or so times over the last 7 months, alarming it when we were inside etc, as you do from time to time. Those micro sensors are supposed to trigger internal movement, right? I didnt hear anything, just a small beeeeep from the dash.
Has anyone else not heard their alarm? Even if/when it throws a wobbly, locks you in or out, (ive been locked in and out, had to use emergency entry and exit levers all round) ?
Im wondering if my alarm cell is dead, hence I dont hear it, which might explain the power drain to the battery. That said, i dont know the age of the battery, it might just be old...

Bob, there's something wrong if you can't hear your alarm. I managed to set mine off 5 minutes after picking it up when I first filled up and still manage it at least once a week. I'd get it looked at asap.

Sometimes it doesn't seem to unset properly, the clue is the electric windows go back up when the door is shut but then won't come down.
If you don't notice this, you get about 500 yards then the alarm sounds, the indicators all flash, and everyone around thinks you're an idiot.
