Rubber and Cream

Never thought to much about rubber, until I booked up for cream - now I've gone and got some new rubber for the day. The offending articles are Toyo R888's - street legal track thingies - and they look so good it's almost a pity to use them on the track!
The salesman (who didn't have to work very hard it must be said) claims they are the 'dogs' and even a novice driver like wot I is will notice the difference. Anyone used these before and got good reports - or have I just blown a wad of cash?

Ricer friends love them, say they're f'in sticky but a deathwish in the wet. Also reported to wear VERY quickly... I'd say a days worth of tracking will kill them, especially at Elvington.... just take it easy...

I've used a set of R888's this year sprinting my cerb. They are superb in the dry and better in the wet than you expect except in standing water. Mine have lasted 4000 miles so far including 11 sprints with 4 runs on each so pretty good for such sticky rubber.
You can use 225 45 16's on the front and rear on the standard 16 inch rims.
WARNING for track day users. I overheated the R888's to such a degree that they lost most of their grip and became very unpredictable. This happened after only 3 laps of Goodwood-although I was doing 92 second laps. I would be careful on track days with these if the weather and track is hot.

Thats not bad milage from such a set of tyres. I note that Dunlop also do their Super Sport race in 225/45x16" sizes.
Have you ever been tempted to move to larger wheels (17" or 18"

Thats why they're dead popular in drifting. But I doubt you'd want to be drifting in a cerbera unless you've got plenty run off space...
