A good friend is looking to buy a TVR.
He has located a 2000 Cerbera in Henly at £28,000. Is this the right price for a car of this age.
Need some advise what kind of price can i expect to pay for a services, he been told that every 6000 mile the car would need a service.
My mate use to drive a Honda S2000 and has moved over to a mitsubishi which is killing him. A TVR is the way he wants to go and need to better understand if there are problems with the Cerbera

28K is top dollar - assume that is a dealer/garage. A 2000 non-lightweight (ie trad front lights) will be about £21K private. So a big difference for a few minor mods and dealer and a few months newer.
Fernhursts have a lateish one that I think is better value. The ads on here should help. Cerbs can be a whole lot of trouble if you dont know what you are buying/you are unlucky. A great one will be just that.

To be blunt, a cerebera 'might' crucify him compared to a mitsubishi, depending on annual mileage, etc, etc, expectations... Would not recommend 'any' 'modern' TVR if it is your only car, and doing a high mileage, or a limited budget....
A rule of thumb on here, is IF you find a good one budget about £3k a year to run it (assuming 6k miles a year. Some years you'll be well under this, but will need to extra set aside to cope with any big bills.
This is not a dig at cerberas, just a sense of reality, you are getting a car with modern Ferrari beting performce, at a much cheper price to buy, AND cheaper to run, if doing more than the ave (2-3k miles a year) Ferraris seem to do.
PS edited to add, £28 k seems to be an awful lot, even from a tvr specialist 'non' main dealer. if it is the one I think it is 32k miles is on the v high side for this price. Take a look at autotrader website and search nationally on tvr cerberas to get an idea of prices.
These are the sorts of cars that it is wise to look at a LOT, before you buy one, when you get to a point of one that you think is could, it is VERY worth while getting a specialist TVR person to check it over, Rob Inglebury is just one chap that comes to mind.

That sounds very expensive, year 2000 in the classifieds are around £21k. I'm looking for one after christmas, if I was buying now it would be one of these two:

I would not recommend paying such "top money" based upon my eperience, they will look to extract at least another 20% in declined waranty claims and other work that`s not covered.
( anyone want to buy an unused set of standard shocker bushes??)

Thats sort of the message I was trying to get across...
I looked at the web site - it is a lightweight albeit it has got the lights faired in so I guess it might have had some front end work (eg either need some paint work or repair).
The drivers seat has the usual 'collapse' about it as the tuscan style seats arent that well made.
Is HH franchised these days? IF so the price is about right maybe slightly high. If not it is high. Ultimately I dont see how anyone could bring themselves to pay that much when a 99 car can be had privately for £10K less. That covers plenty of repairs and since the warranties can be poor value .......

A service - Oil Change £150 to £250
B service - Oil + Plugs £200 to £450
C service - All fluids, Cam belt ... £450 to £600
The sequence is A B A B A C...

Only been on the market a couple of days and getting a few enquiries already. Better be quick...
It is a great car and i'm gutted to sell it to be honest. Was really scared about reliability and costs when i bought it (it's my first TVR) but had no real problems at all.
Ah well, at least i'm not deserting the marque. As soon as it's sold i'm going Chimaera shopping

It was the reliability and what used to be the nearest place that fixed TVR's(northwich) that has put me off in the past.
What has made me decide to take the plunge is my local garage (300yds from me) has been taken over by a former Maclaren F1 team engineer.He is now a performance tuning expert specialising in TVR's.(how lucky is that).He doesn't just do TVR's though when I was there he had a new Maserati in and he does Ferrari's, also my mates 400hp scooby.
He also has a le man's winning Porsche in there that he is working on, I forget the year but I thought it was an Ultima if that gives you a clue.
He knows the purple nitroused Cerby from piston fest and somebody else on here that hill climbs a cerby.
If anybody on here wants his details or think they know him E-mail me through my profile and I will pass on his details.
This is a lucky break for me because if I get a Cerby and it won't start one morning all I have to do is take the wifes corsa give him a ring and he will walk round and pick it up.
Also I will be doing 7 miles to work each day and back at night so I will very rarely be more than 7 miles away if it breaks down.(not that I think It will I only do 6000 miles a year and it is going to be well looked after, the guy from the garage has even offered to go Cerby shopping with me after christmas, to inspect it for me

TVR service schedule is notionally A B A B A B, with a 6k interim service being less than a 12k service. Rule of thumb: budget £1k a time.

No they are indies at the moment, but I have yet to see another main dealer that has as many service bays, plus they rebuild AJP and Speed Sixes on site. After some of the main dealer rubish I have experianced, I think the franchised status holds little water! They were main dealers in the past, why should it make any differance? Bloody nice bunch of guys too.
