While I was looking in the drivers footwell for the Aircon thermostat I noticed the clutch master cylinder is weeping FFS!
Is it a case of just replace master cylinder and all will be ok, or is it the start of a systematic failure of all the clutch components leading to gearbox out and associated joys of trying to find early AP clutch, or am I just getting carried away here?
I'm not getting any problems with the operation of the clutch, pedal action and gear selection feel fine.

Just keep an eye on it. If it does go its not that much of a pain to. Have a look at your fluid, is there any black bits on the cap or floating in the fluid?

Thanks Extra, you seem to be a pretty clued up hands on Cerbera owner, suppose having an engineering backgrounds helps.

A little, but its only nuts and bolts. You just have to do them up in the right order!

Sorry for the late reply, I am working away in Austria.

Looks bad. Is there any fluid under the car? Geep an eye on the levels but i would get the master changed or overhauld soon. Have you done the slave?

There is no fluid under the car and the clutch pedal operation feels normal. I looked through the history and no receipts for any previous clutch work, slave or anything else so can only assume its all original and just over 24k miles old. Is it a false economy to just replace the master, should one replace the salve also at the same time?

Depends on how far you want to drive between doing the master and the slave. When I had my master replaced on it's own, I got almost 500 yards before the slave went.

the slave is in the bellhousing so gearbox out job, if you do this at 24K miles a clutch is also worth looking at.

Sorry but the deposits on the cap do not look good. If I were you I would look at getting at least the master done and then the slave.

Let me know if you need a hand, I have done both these myself.

Do you have the 4.5 Clutch???

Unfortunately its a 96 4.2 so I'm assuming its the AP racing clutch. Guess its gearbox out time to do slave as well!
Might take you up on your kind offer of help, just wondering how difficulty gearbox removal would be with car just on axle stands, ideally would be easier on ramp.

You have mail! That leaking looks very familiar

It had a new slave about 10K miles & three years ago so I’m hoping it will last the “other” 10k of the clutch, or at least till we have had the new garage built!

You may need a new flywheel and clutch then.

Well assuming the clutch plates are that badly worn, the clutch operation is fine, its only the pesky fluid leak.
