Aircon Problems

Hope someone can help? Been having issues with the aircon on the cerbera. It started off by only staying on for 10mins or so then going off but pressing the button would give another 10mins. However it’s stopped working all together now but the button still lights up. I have just had the car serviced and a number of aircon parts changed including a re-gass (again) which still has not sorted the problem.
Unfortunately they now think it’s an electrical issue as the feed disappears somewhere before the mechanicals take over. This is a bit frustrating as when I dropped the car off I did say “I think it’s an electrical problem.”
This will now involve the car going back for further investigation. I am unwilling to take the car back for this as I have already paid a considerable amount to have this work done which I believed would fix the problem.
My question is does anyone on here know of a good (trusted) auto electrician in the north east (Newcastle) area who does house calls?
Any recommendations would be gladly received.

Do many folk actualy use the aircon ?
I`ve never had the inclination to push the button ... and looking at the rad,pipes and pump that clutter the engine compartment, I am seriously considering removing it all as excess weight !!
I always drive with the window open anyhow, doesen`t seem to get excessiveley hot in the car ?

That is weird - i was just about to post the same question. I never ever use mine, and if i had bought the Cerbera from new i would not have bothered. I am sure mine is all seized up by now, but not to worry.

That is weird - i was just about to post the same question. I never ever use mine, and if i had bought the Cerbera from new i would not have bothered. I am sure mine is all seized up by now, but not to worry.
Mine stopped working about 2 years ago, probably just needs a re-gas. I noticed that when it as working, the engine temp went up about 10 degrees, so I tended not to ue it much anyhow.
Would've been nice coming back from Le Mans this year (40 degrees!), but then again, I doubt I'd have used it, just to keep the engine temp down.

There is a problem on the earlier cars where as you drive air is forced through the heater & into the cabin, which doesn’t help, you can end up trying to use the air con to cool the heater down… There is even a known dealer fix, if you want to try it look my post at the bottom of page 1 on this link http://pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=137564
As for general use of the air con, I remember reading on here a long time ago that it cools the petrol down & stops it evaporating when standing in hot traffic. So it may have some use!

Mine stopped working for a few months.
When I used to press the air con button, the mechanical thing that shoots out & clicks in the engine compartment, seized up (the thing with the belt on, technical, I'm not)
Pressed the button accidently a few months later & it started working again.
As already mentioned, I've had it regassed & I still find that with the front windows down it's cooler than the air con.
For some reason the air coming out of the footwell is the coldest, the one that hits the face, isn't as good. Never quite workrd that one out.

The air mixing system is basically a big box with the hot coming in on the passenger side & the cold coming in on the drivers. The vent for your feet is right next to the cold in-put pipe so you get the coldest air coming back out of that. The feed for your face is taken from near the centre so is more balanced. Later cars have the vent for your face plumed directly into the cold air feed pipe, so it’s very cold but that’s all you get from it. Thanks for the advice people. The car is going back to the dealer to finish the original fix.

When working I must say its very good with mine being an early car it does get very hot and uncomfortable.

Okay, aircon is slightly funny on the Cerb, IIRR, is the clutch working on the compressor. Easy to see because its the bit in the centre of the thing on the front of the engine that looks like an alternator but isn't.
It will not work for three reasons.
1) it senses a low pressure of gas and will not activate if there is no gas
2) The clutch itself is jammed.
3) The electric feed from the ECU to the clutch is open circuit. Its an easy one to test, and the most likely fault in your case
