Since the SO3s on my Cerb were so awful at Brands Hatch I decided to buy some dedicated track tyres so I didn't worry about ripping up my road tyres and hopefully I'd get a bit more grip on the circuit, so I've bought some semi-slicks. They're boarderline for the rim width but I thought I'd give them a go, at £52 a corner it's worth a gamble.

205/50/16

So, you can see its a bit 'tight' on the rim.

They also do that tyre in a dry pattern, I went for wet as it hedged the bets, you can also spec the compound that they're made with, I went for Soft/Med. If all works out well I'll get a set of dry Soft for the summer.

Normally overnight, but mine were meant to be with me last Thursday but they hadn't made them! So they were made Thursday and shipped Friday.

40mm narrower than a standard 4.2 rear boot - I know it's a semi slick (and is dirt cheap compared to an S03), but how much more grip will it give over a standard road rear tyre ? A softer compound will def help (& I'm going to seriously consider then as a track day tyre for the Golf), just wonder if there is a way of working it out ?

Good luck getting the bu99ers fitted !

That's why I've left them with a m8 to fit.

I know what you're saying and if they don't work out there may be a second hand set of nicely scrubbed in tyres going for your Golf.

As for grip, the SO3s on the rear of mine were absolutely useless at Brands, not progressive at all, giving no warning at all going into Graham Hill or Clearways, never liked the tyre tbh. I'll be putting Proxys on when I can as my favourite tyre - GY Eagle GSD3s aren't available in the correct size for the Cerb' 16" rims.

Maxsports are excellent value, I use their RB3 Gravel pattern for rallying, despite being remoulds they put up with a lot of punishment,.and the grip is surprisingly good on tarmac....70 profile is a bit tall for the cerb !

I had a set of RB4 inters, but they needed a lot of weight to balance, and were not at all progressive, The cut F2 slicks may be better, especialy with a lot more BHP.

Have fun !!
