I am wondering whether to dig deep now, and go for a red rose upgrade/rebuild, remap and induction kit. I am not sure whether the red rose upgrade includes a basic rebuild too, and what sort of cost I am talking about for the whole job (including mapping/induction). Any ideas on rough cost and risks.

Why dont you have a word with Joolz regarding the Emerald remap. Its a lot cheaper. He'll tell you whats involved, the differences etc.

He'll be attending CREAM tomorrow, so if you are going, have a word with him. If not, email him through his link on here. His name is trackcar.

The Red Rose is carried out with a basic rebuild. so is probably £4 - 5K all in PLUS induction and chip (£2K ?) - so maybe £7K all in?
If your engine needs a rebuild then a red rose is a better option. If it doesnt need a rebuild then leave it and ensure you have spent cash on brakes and suspension and driver tution before bothering with tune up. IMHO

For an engine that doesnt need to be rebuilt (hasnt gone bang) its around £4k for the Red Rose upgrade. Or for similar results, £1k for a remap/new ecu from one of the specialists like Trackcar (www.track-car-solutions.co.uk) Not entirely sure about the induction kit costs, but somewhere around £0.5k should do it.

Im not sure that remapping is worth doing with a red rose anyway, it seems to be better mapped to begin with in the same way that a 4.2 is.

IMHO its £4k for around 400bhp and a freshly rebuilt engine or £1k for around 400bhp on the same untouched engine.

If you are in W Sussex then give Austec a call if you want induction and / or remap.

I agree that a Red Rose rebuild is not worth it on its own. However if you're going to map the RR engine in addition, it might be worth it. Making the most of your current engine is certainly the biggest bang for buck.

Paul, just had a remap done on mine at Austec, with the added benefit of sports pipes I got an extra 60 BHP I would certainly recommend popping in and having a chat

Peter,

This all depends on what you want to spend. I think the bottom line is if you want the most power from your motor an RR upgrade, re-map and maybe induction will give you the best results. A decent RR in standard spec should give you 400+ bhp. The maps on these cars are pretty good, much better than the standard 4.5 so the gains to be had from a re-map are much less, maybe 10-20bhp depending on where you start from. An induction kit could release a few more, maybe another 10bhp so with all this 430-440 may be possible.

I was looking at upgrades a while back. My decision was to go for a re-map and Joos induction / airbox mods which have given me 400ish bhp. I'm happy with that for now. When the time comes and it needs a re-build I'll have the RR upgrade then. That's the only way I can justify the costs involved and time off the road. I will of course still be able to use my Emerald ECU and induction mods to get the best from the motor so it's not dead money.

Sport pipes dont really yeild any bhp gains, but they do sound nice

Induction kits dont make a BIG difference unless a lot of other work is carried out too.

Ceejays car has had a lot of work done to get it to the level she is now.

TCS can provide a full array of upgrades to get the horses right to the top.

Austec also provides a number of upgrades, including the famous Mark Adams atomized injector upgrade too.

Either way, both tuner routes can yield some impressive gains.

Even give Craig a ring for a NOS upgrade (which is the cheapest route to gain easily upto 100bhp more) or talk to the Craft boys for a serious engine stroker upgrade or head work.

So many things possible, best bet is to give all the tuners a ring and see who can give you the best deal for your money.

Its an injector that pisses all over the place and farts air bubbles too!

Speak to Mark Adams for technical details.
