Have i got diff trouble?

Ive noticed that when i throttle off i get a lot of jerking and heavy thumping coming from the back end of the car.Ive had a (rough) check to see if any things loose.The diff bolts seem tight.I havent managed to get a bar in yet and lever on any bushes to see if they are worn.The cars a 96 N reg one of the first with 30,000 on the clock.Any help would be appreciated. I was told that if you remove a rear wheel you can get access to that bush with a long pole, and to use a technicle term 'smash f_ck' out of the bush to remove it.
Not tried it myself, but thats what i was told.
I'd like to see you fit the new one with a long pole....
in true Haynes manual style..... to refit is the reversal of the removal.
There's three bushes, one at the top which is a nightmare to get at, then a nightmare to remove and finally a nightmare to replace. Then there are two other bushes supporting the bottom of the diff. It's a pain of a job, but at the end of the day if it's only the top bush that's gone then it's £18-£40 for the bush (depending on what type you go for) and a few hours replacing it. It's a lot better than having to buy a new diff at over £1k + Vat, and then have it fitted.
If its anything like a Griff its a P.I.T.A. but possible without removal of diff...
Either a long drift and lump hammer
for removal of old bush or a void bush tool...
Replace with a Poly bush so can be squeezed in with long bolt & large washers...

Well here's what my problem was:
Thought the diff bush bracket was loose where it's fixed to the diff plate, then discovered that the bracket itself was cracked and twisted.
Had it changed yesterday and while the diff was off had all three bushes changed.
Here is what the old and the new look like!

Fun though Mark, it's on top of the diff. Meets the top diff bush on the chassis.
Nick, Leven did all the work. I watched on tender hooks while they put a hammer to a long metal bar which was used to "tap" the bush through. 1st hammer broke
Diff was removed and all the other bits needed to get it out.
Leven said mine was one of the easy ones, still took 15mins of hard hammering to get it out.
Started at 12 ish and I was driving away at 5. Thats all three bushes changed and a lunch break

Thanks Dave, for some reason I was looking for something bigger and overlooked that bit.
I think mine may have gone too 'cos I get an occasional loud 'donk' coming from the rear end.
another excuse to get yoyur hands dirty eh?
