Looks good, Nice to see the link pipe is a good size. just from a purely manufacturing point of view, why the weld havlf way down the pipes?


Ah I suppose flared before the clamps put on eh?

When can I have ????

Triumph Stags have the link pipe as well which apparently contributes to their nice V8 burble.

link pipe adds hp and reduces noise (both slightly, but yuo might as well have it as not!) .. welds half way down are so they can make 17.5 inch or 16 inch long versions from the same basic stock of pipes i guess ..

reduces noise compared to std decat anyway .. still louder than cats. Put some on a car yesterday which has the cheaper sports pipes on that tend to sound raspy, and it sounded like the jp versions nicer I think.

Flow of gas out of the rear was much more even too .. like a gentle wind (fnaar) rather than individual pulses going down ..

just had one lot through, all sold in the same day. got to wait for the next lot now.. prioce will be about 110-115 pounds plus vat as there's a bit more effort goes into making them than the std plain pipes.

No ones missed anything yet. I'm the subject of the thread and I don't have mine yet either .

Interested that someone managed to crack the MBE unit.

The only person I knew that managed that was Crack at Austec and he had £2K worth of spanish 32K eprom emulator and a lot of rolling road time for hit and miss experiments.

Eprom emulators of that speed weren't and still aren't cheap. So if a hobby type like myself did it in another way I would be rather impressed.

EPROM reprogramers/ emulators are not that expensive,
You could easily get all the stuff you need to write your own code to the chip for less that £500.
The tricky bit is understanding what you are looking at. I have a few Eprom reader fornt ends and they are not that hard to understand.
You will however need a rolling road for best results, though it could be done from the passenger seat. Oh and the sort of knowledge few posses Mark Adams, Paul, Julz.

Jules, if some kind of link pipe was incorporated into a set of sports pipes on a 4.2 Cerb which retains cats would it reduce the booming low RPM resonance?

Maybe things are changed since I looked. Remember you are not looking for an eprom programmer, and you are not looking for a £2.50 emulator. You are looking for a 256K device that will allow you to change information while the car is also running the engine. Ideally it needs to also tell you what location the engine is looking at, at any particular time. You can buy cheap eprom emulators which are no more than an electronic switch but that is of little use to you.

Also remember that the ECU running the MBE is at 11Mhz IIRR. It only takes two clock cycles to read the eprom. You need a device that can respond at the speed of an eprom but obviously faster than a flash ram.

In effect you need two banked dual switching ram, with a bit of inteligence to decide when the ECU is acessing or when you can access.

At the point when I had a processor and two rams and two flash eproms as a plug in device I gave up waiting for a processor with enough internal ram to make the job easier.

1. Find the adresses in the EPROM that store Fan temps, Target Lambda, fuel and ignition maps etc

2. Make live changes to the fuel and ignition maps (remap the ECU)

Once the address are known for fan temps and the like they are easy to change by modifying a binary file and blowing a new EPROM. So changing them isn't an issue

Mapping a running car is a tad more complicated!

To resolve both issues required a sofware engineer and a tuning specialist bending their brains around the problem over many weeks/months.

It needed both disciplines to understand the medium and the message.

Yep to me that sounds the the advert for a new religion. Doesn't tell us anything but makes it sound impressive.

Doesn't even need a knowledge of engines to solve the problem just a hardware and software bod.

What we need is for the inventor to describe whether he/she just did an in depth exam of a 32K map and some good guesses based on the dealer software map, or whether we really have a star in our midsts who solved a problem I could not.

I hope we hear from him sooner or later with tales of an elegant solution where I gasp at the simplicity and elegance of his/her design.

One thing I will say is that if the inventor had achieved what I could not in the way I wanted to do it then emerald whould cease to exist as the factory MBE chip would now be capable of changes of map on the fly. We would all, in effect have a eprom emulator in our cars while driving. And the chunky system of engine adaptation as it exists in the MBE would also dissapear.

Julian do you have the part no. from the EPROM inside the MBE ecu? This would tell me if I could do it with the kit I can get hold of.
It is not as much of a black art as might be imagined, though Mike SR is right unless you have some one to assist on the mechanical side you are up against it.
With the right colaboration it can happen.
Mike you must know the EPROM part no.?

the fan temps would not be that hard to find.
I would copy the emprom bin file, then again after the fans come on. (whilst emulating the EPROM)
next you need a program to display the bin files next to eachother.
There are programs out there that will interogate the bin files looking for iregularities(sp) then display them.
I shouldn't be to hard to work out which address is changing.
Also you would be looking for a bit mask, a simple switch on or off, quess this would be writen in hex.
