I was taking Cerby in for it's annual service and MOT, and managed to lose drive en route!
By the time that other emergency service 
had taken us to the garage, I had ascribed all sorts of imaginary failures to the problem.
I've now had the proper diagnosis from the chaps at Fernies (Hi Chaps!
, and apparently the driveshaft has "slipped" out of the holding place in the differential (are you impressed by the techie talk!
). It is held in place by a circlip, according to them.
The current thinking is that it probably popped out having hit a pot hole or equivalent jarring entity!
Worth thinking about the next time you're

360bhp through one wheel.
Doesnt quite work like that, especially on a hydratrac car... it slips, locks, slips, locks etc etc etc... very very odd to drive like that and extremely slow. Equally the hardest car I have ever come across to actually get moving in the first place.
Definately not recommended for any more distance than necessary, but our diff was already on its way out (whirring noise for the last year and a bit lol) and the thought of being stranded in france meant we gave it a go... got back to le-shuttle and called the RAC once back in blighty. Superb car, even when its broken it didnt leave us stranded, 40mph on french motorways at night though isnt fun.

I was only joking. I was in a car years ago, when a similar thing happened. We just laft it for the AA.

Join the club Ian. My driveshaft has twisted slightly and then stopped/locked in place. It still gave drive to the wheel but obviously Austec wouldnt let me take the car out of their garage as it would fail completely at some point soon. Waiting for TVR to deliver them one for me (was supposed to be today but nope)....I hope those Fernie boys havent pulled rank?
Well, I've just had an update!
It seems that the fix that the boys did today failed to hold the driveshaft in place. So now you can imagine one of our well known Indies stranded by the roadside, also waiting for a pick up! 
And the diff is going to have to be reconditioned, rather than it being anything to do with the shaft...so i won't be stealing yours, Nick!

Just out of interest, how much does all this cost eg for a recon one, or indeed for a new one?

I think about £225 for a new one. Mine snapped at APM a few weeks ago whilst in for a service. Better to get sick at the hospital and all that
