any interest in my early 4.2 ?

have an early ( 1996) 4.2 in red/ grey - pretty much concours cond , with 6000 miles total - had lots of upgrades from local dealer, ( door switches, window seals etc) - has air cond and hydratrax and all that - how would you value it ?

Just over 600 miles per year. Not many. These cars like to be run on a regular basis. Has it been laid up/off the road for a long period?

wouldnt say its been off the road or laid up for a long time - i just like driving it in the summer months when it suits really - had no long periods of no use

At that mileage, sell it to a museum.

The car is hardly run in. Do you get it serviced every year for the 600 miles? Is it still on the original tyres? I doubt you would get a premium for it if you were selling but I've been known to be wrong.

course not on original tyre , but all serviced etc - why is its low mileage such bad news - its hardly been pottering about

These cars seem to develope 'niggles' with mileage, so I guess yours will still expect these 'niggles'. Are we to presume with this low mileage it has original clatter cams and original clutch...both very expensive to replace, as they will undoubtably will need doing some point....

I'm not sure how much extra I'd pay for it, but if the ad read "one owner, 6000 miles" & wasn't much more then it would be the car I'd go & see first.

I'm guessing around the £16k mark, p.s., you'd have the lowest mileage Cerb on Autotrader, possibly the lowest one anywhere.

the condition of cerbs normally makes it pretty easy to suss out whether the mileage is genuine eg carpets, pedals and the engine bay clearly indicate the miles (normally).

gazzab ; again sorry to dissapoint you but have all the history incl all mots so you can check mileage and history - think remark about getting speedo fixed was tongue in cheek !!

Mine('96 4.2) only had 16000 miles on it in October 2004 (1 month before i bought it) It now has 33,000 miles on it and is running like a dream. BUT within 1 week of ownership the niggles started

Ribbon Cable (twice)
Gearbox
Clutch
Flywheel
Bellhousing
Suspension
Discs
Driveshaft
Exhaust

and now the (expensive) niggles have only just stopped. If I was to do it again I'd be looking for at least 5-6000k miles put on the car per year of ownership (plus fsh) to make sure any potential niggles were completely out.

Saying that I'd also sell most of my vital organs to keep it on the road as well That's not to say a low mileage example will be as needy as mine has been, but it's quite likely. All IMHO of course. Good luck with the sale.
