For the last month or so i was finding it really hard to select gears when the car was cold. When the car was warmed up i had no problems at all with all gears moving freely and easily.i read all the posts on here regarding clutch failure a nd thought my time had come.I have since replaced the bottom diff bushes as they were completely sh****d and the diff was banging about all over the place. But guess what? since replacing the bushes all my clutch problems seem to have gone, with me now being able to select gears when cold as well as warm, and not with me having to force them in.I cant see how changing the bushes has had an effect when there really isnt a connection, only further down the drive line.May be its just a fluke?

Sounds very curious. Maybe it's all psycol .. sycho, ... in your head. The only connection I can think of is iff the diff is moving so far the prop shaft has run out of dive and is transmitting end load into the 'box and this is moving the whole engine assembly somehow. But that does sound rather tenuous.

Not as tenuous as you think When I had my diff carrier rebuilt on my 3000M, all sorts of driveline wierdness went!

I did think it was bit far fetched to think that some how replacing the diff bushes has cured my gear selection problems, but im really at odds to explain how my problems have disappeared once i replaced the bushes?

hmm .. curious and on the face of it I'd be inclined to agree it's just fluke ..

however ..

your car is an early one (96 according to your profile), and possibly subject to the recall for shortening the propshaft drive sleeve that goes into the gearbox, also the engine/greaboxes were moved forwards about 10mm .. might be that yours didn't get moved enough or didn't get it's prop sleeve shortened properly, in which case as peter rightly suggests there *may* be some end pressure applied to the gearbox output shaft .. then again it might just be co-incidental.
