Wiper Motor problem

At last I have a fault to speak of! Hopefully, its a simple one for the more experienced owners.
My wipers are refusing to move even on a wet screen. I can hear a click when I press the wash button or main wipe button. If I hold the main wipe button, screen wash still comes out and the other steering buttons still work fine.
I did notice that just before they stopped, they were operating very slowly which was strange because they normally whip qiute efficiently across the screen. Just seems strange that they would go from working really well to nothing in the space of 2 minutes.

I just tried that and they did wipe back (slowly) across, stopped again and now won't move even with assistance. They are stuck in the 12 o'clock position.

Just tried completely lifting them off the screen, wiper button pressed twice so should have been in continuous mode, no movement and compltely solid when trying to persuade them physically.
Would the AA count this as a breakdown if Its dangerous to drive with them inoperative?

You really need to get the motor out and take a look. Its a bit if a PITA but you can do it ok, just put aside 2hrs or so. You need to check the motor itself and the loom, plug, that goes in to it. Of the plug is black or showing any signs of arcing then its most likely that. You can get a new wiper motor loom and plug from Minispares.co.uk
Test the motor and see if that works ok, you need a new one then the motors are the same as the old mini, say a 1998 Mini, but you will need to change the gearbox as the cerbera has a much greater sweep.

The motor is behind the bracket for hte header tank, you'll need to remove the bonnet locking bar, undo the small bleed hose from the tank, wiggle the tank out from the the bracket then undo the hose clip holding it to the bottom pipe and remove.
Then unbolt the the header tank bracket and you can now get to the motor, although to undo the bracket you'll need to remove the ecu / passenger trim panel and jam a spanner on the head of the bolt on the other side of the bulkhead and remove the 6 little bolts holding the cover plate onto the motor in order to un hook it from the wiper rack

Not necessarily, I had this happen, box clicking away, but only after trying another control box did it become evident that the box was at fault. See if a friendly local Cerb' owner would let you try their Control box, it's a lot easier than pulling the wiper motor.

Well after further investigation it is definitely the Wiper Switching Unit that is clicking.
In the second picture, after I had decided to be brave and take the 4 screws out to have a peek inside, you will see two relays. One of them is the clicker.
They have siemens marked on them so enuff said! Only the lord of defectiveness LUCAS could be any worse.
I'm going to try and get hold of another unit and see if the problem solves. The wipers have now moved back to their original position so I'm sure the motor isn't at fault. It had preiously been strong and then nothing so before I venture into stripping the motor, I'll try this little box first.

Just ordered a wiper switching unit from one of the breakers. Should have it on Saturday so will see if that solves the problem. £30 inc VAT and carriage.
Its about £60 from Offord TVR and I was told that they get made up on a 'per order' basis so it would take a week to do. Racing Green could do one for the same but said three days.

It's not the relay.
Replacement relay arrived and does exactly the same thing (makes a clicking noise). Box is slightly different to my original one but same part number.
Looks like its time to move on to your other suggestions. The wipers worked for three sweeps this morning (slowly) and then stopped again.

Put a meter on the output of the control box, and check that its all okay, I.e voltage going on off.
If that's okay then it must be the motor itself.
My apologies if I may have led you down the wrong path, your symptoms were the same as mine and my problem WAS the control box. - Always useful to have a spare
