17" wheel leaking air

Help,

Having had all my spares stolen a year ago, i now find atht one of my rears is leaking air. If anyone knows how i can get one (secondhand is fine) please advise. I really don't want to go the spiders route.

Sometimes its just a sealer that is painted to the inner rim that can stop this. I take it you have tried that? I don't mean tyre weld by the way!

the rl7 is known for the paint lifting off the alloy.. the air leaks between the alloy and the paint .. removing the tyre and etch priming the inner rim, then refitting the tyre with sealer does the trick

17's were a recall (on mine anyways) and i got the 18's free! a rarity in TVR

They are also prone to cracking. I had to have my two rear welded by our aerospace welder and then x-rayed!

I know the 18 RL's were prone to cracking.

Beautiful looking wheel the RL. Probably about the only external mod I would consider.

I also prefer the RL's than the spiders. Thats wht i've never upgraded.

surely you have upgraded ? You have a 4.2 that would have been on 16s ;-)

You are correct Gary. However, the car had them on when I bought it, and as I prefer the RL's to the spiders, I wont upgrade.

Surely spiders are a downgrade. RL7's were only available on the flagship model, whereas the little spiders are standard lead in models.

18in RL's get my vote but they are very rare

i prefer the RLs to spiders too. My front left leaks air like a good un though! Depending on the weather, it can loose around 10psi if left standing for a week.

So are all on 17s entitled to 18s as a replacement, for reasons of safety? Or do we have a choice. I prefer the look of the 17s with the original round lights that I currently have.

I was under the impression that it was to 18" RLs that were screwed, the 17s were ok?

From what Andy at APM said, the bead seating on the RL 17s is not great, leading to imbalance as well as their propensity to the occasional leak. AFAIK the cracking problem was mainly on the 18" RLs.

Like most people who've so far expressed a preference, I too want to keep the RLs and the "big headlight" look.
