I've been thinking recently that we may have a great opportunity here. TVR are toying with the Cerbera currently in a back room somewhere with a view to relaunching it in 12-18 months time.

Given that they're not in a great rush, perhaps we might be able to influence them slightly?

The engine decision will be their's but I'm sure they'll be tempted to play with the interior and some external styling details (not too much I hope).

So, how about a wish list?

For starters, here's mine

Eye level instruments
I used to think the instrument layout was good but after much use I'd really prefer them at eye level where I can glance at them quickly and see what's what (managed to drive for an unknown distance with no oil pressure a few months back - all too easy!). Also some decent warning lights and an oil temperature guage would be nice. And definitely all analogue instruments - no silly LCDs!

Headlamps
I've got the twin headlamp system but it's still woeful in the pitch black. I don't want a pair of 100W Rally Giants on the front but I'd love the equivalent light!

Seatbelts
A latch that isn't pressed up against the transmission tunnel!

Only one thing that springs to mind.
Better windscreen vents.
It just doesn't clear quick enough!

- A sensible bonnet release mechanism
- A different wiper motor
- Better quality clutch cylinders
- 'normal' indicator behaviour
- A different exhaust mounting system (that takes less effort to centre)
- Different seats (not the current range, or the old ones)
- Better internal storage - get rid of the 'cubby hole' under the dash
- Integrated audio with steering wheel controls (but only if there's a better option than the current ribbon cable)

Well they should be in a big rush because I think TVR are going to suffer if they don't bring out a Cerb 2 soon.

For me it would have to be maintaining the wow factor of the Cerb. And for pity's sake not the S6, no need to compete with saggy. I echo all those on these lists who say its time to go LS6

I want no dials and a simple reflective head up display on the screen. The sweeping leather from of the cerb works well, and their designers can go mad, but with an absence of dials it is always going to look wow.

Keep the +2, front engine and long early british sportscar bonnet. The new cerb2 is not a contender with the saggy on a track. But do keep the Cerb as the fastest car in a straight line or it will die a death.

Minor foible, but placing the wiper fluid in somewhere sensible would be good, not underneath the induction pipes.

Having somewhere to rest your right elbow would be nice, and fix the immense turning circle, and better headlamps

Put the Battery in the boot and not under covers... OR... just give it an uber powerful battery in the first instance and then they can cover it up as much as they like!

HUD would be ideal as previously suggested

Better wearing leather on the seats, they seem to wear very quickly at the mo

eerrmmmm that's all I can add for now

• Better steering wheel, lose the buttons on the wheel and give it better thumb holding comfort.
* Handbrake handle fitted lower down for better pull angle.

I think that most of negative aspects have already been covered above, but based upon my own experiences and those of friends we would like....

- Stronger/longer lasting clutch and ancillaries
- A bit more room in the back
- Better headlights
- Improved ventilation
- Better wash wipe thingy
- A handbrake!
- More effective A/C
- Less temperamentel electrics
- Oh....and a V8...of course!

With as little compromisation as possible on....

- Interior styling
- Exterior styling
- Performance
- Noise
- Boot space

Making the clutch/brake fluid resevoir more easily accessible for inspection wouldn't go amiss

- Throttle pots that don't alter between services.
- A/C that cools for more than 5 mins in the summer.
- Cabin that isn't pumped with hot air through the windscreen vents
- Quoted power figure
- Footwells that don't fill with water
- Handbrake
- Quicker gear shift
- Proper wind noise resistance around the side windows
- Side bolstered seats

Some underfloor aerodynamics. It would then be less scary when your passenger says "rotate" halfway down a runway...

A short list:

Has to be 2+2 - I sometimes have to squeeze 2 birds in the back!
Essential V8, burble & back fire, hmmmm yum
Sleek, boundary pushing styling, such as it was and still is - gets looks after all this time
Maybe a new mechanism for the doors, ala Enzo or koenigsegg - as not the easiest to get out of in a car park. less likely passenger sratches doors on pavement
Keep buttons for door exit etc, but have better lit window buttons such as T350 – saggy.
More LED illumination on interior.
Handbrake that works.
Heating – lets make heat go to both places not just a vent for cold and a vent hot. Really is it that hard.
Wipers that fit the screen.
Turning circle, well a bit better one.
Indicators I like the unique stalk, so keep.
Illuminated buttons on steering wheel.
Heated screen or better vents as mention earlier (davetherave1970)
Glove box would be nice
Better viewing – slightly improved on the LW’s but no huge roll bar please
Keep push button entry, and start /stop. Maybe a big button on dash
Decent starter motor that is supposed to be started more than once in a day/week.
Keep boot mechanism –but maybe have internal button release inside?
Better heat dissipation from engine.
Better braking – options for bigger brakes
Venturi tunnel under-car, for more stability a higher speeds

thats all....
for now anyways

Nick old son,

Uncle Pete here (Spartacus) is just nuts about the cerb that other uncle Pete (Wheeler) unleashed on the car buying public some ten years ago.

In my humble opinion you should consider the following points:

Better under bonnet & engine bay design and layout to prevent build-up of hot air towards rear of engine resulting in problems like starter motor failure, get the air out through some side ducts if possible.

Aluminium chassis, have a look at what Lotus have done with Elise! maybe more of the structure could be moved from the central tunnel to the sills, make them much deeper, thus creating more room between driver and passenger, would help the back seating area also so young Mr D.Ratpack could fit even more young ladies in the back.

Maintain all the cerebra's quirky switches, door locks and instruments, if not exactly then at least in the sprit of original design.

Interior is an automotive design classic, puts cars twice the price to shame. definitely keep the steering wheel buttons but try and find something more efficient than half a mile of ribbon cable wrapped round the steering column!

I think you need to keep the long low sleek look of the car as much as possible, that's what makes it so unique.

And lastly, clutch, needs to be a bit more reliable, just a tad, this may be less of the problem if you end up not using a flat-plane crank V8 engine, but hope you do, that's another point which makes the cerbera like nothing else! you migh even fancy bunging on a couple more cylinders.

Best wishes for the festive season.
Uncle Pete.

Good to see a few old hands on giving their opinions.
I've only driven about 50,000 miles in cerberas over the last 6 years but reckon they should just make one that works - In the same time I've racked up at least another 200,000 miles in 3 BMW 5 series estates - stress free, trouble free, turn the key and you know it'll start. And before I go on I am a big fan of TVR but . . .
TVR - how come the 'quirky' steering wheel controls on my BMW 530 estate with 80,000 miles now still work, yet when on my last TVR (a '97 cerby) at just 27,000 miles they failed to work? I can appreciate that it is unfair to compare a lot of mechanical details between something like a TVR and a BMW but surely general wear and tear on basic components has to raise the question of 'fit for purpose'.
Legally I don't want to upset anyone by mentioning those words but surely they are on the tip of everyone's tongue when they get components changed on their 'old' cerberas?
On that note, why does the starter on my Sept 2004 Cerbera with just 11k not work any more? (yes that's right my new cerbera 2004 with 12K has had to have the starter reconditioned at 11,300 miles - and I have to say the original TVR part was left in for reconditioning only to be told it had already been reconditioned! - a car that left the factory under the new owner by the way).
The BMW gets driven hard every day but I nurse the new cerbera and still worry that something is going to go wrong.
Oh and that's right the rear window demist has just broken again, and when the exhaust 'broke' after about 7,000 miles - what was I told - "we don't have any replacement in stock could you get it welded"
And when I drove to CREAM 'all the way' from Northern Ireland and another exhaust bracket broke (because the manifiolds are so out of shape that the exhaust won't fit properly') and then the lamda sensors failed and I had to limp home . . .
The cerbera gets out every day - but i'm told it's not a car for every day use - but neither is it a car for leaving in the garage for too long either - what the heck is it for??
And don't get me wrong - I love TVR and cerbera in particular - but I just wish to god that TVR would make a car that is reliable.
There you go my wish list -
A CERBERA THAT WORKS - I'll buy it, I mean I bought two that didn't so why wouldn't I fall for it?
