More gearbox queries...

I'm having some problems engaging first gear (only). It is at it's worst when totally stationary, but can be worked around if I start to release the clutch a little - it seems to slip in to gear then. I occassionally get a similar thing for reverse.

Is this the dreaded fingers problem, or just another form of clutch/gearbox problem?

Has the biting point changed and is the feel through the pedal any different?

I’ve found this slightly this winter, all I do go into second if it won’t go in, and then slips into first – could it be the Synchromesh on the way out?

I don't think that the biting point is any different, and I do sometimes just use second instead.

I recall comments in the past that have remarked on the slave cylinder reach needed careful set up, and I wondered whether this was accentuated in first for some reason.

Is it when it is hot or cold, or both?

I wouldnt start in second if i were you. Its a sure thing to wear the clutch out. Your system could need a bleed ot it could be something on the way out, Have you checked the fluid level? Is it normal? Any black deposits???

not sure if i put that right. when mine is cold, i slip the gear into 2nd, then into 1st before pulling away.

Phew! Thats ok then! I dodnt think an expert Cerb driver would do this.

Slave seals went about a year ago and replaced by Fernies, and the car has just come back from them after servicing/MOT. I haven't checked the fluid levels, but I am sure they would have done...

and it doesn't matter whether the car is hot or cold, etc.
