Well guys just as I was thinking that the Cerb was behaving lately, someone here posted something about the PAS pump going, I read it and what happened next day?

Yep, twittering noises and jerky or non-existant power steering.

SO... after reading that the pump is a bugger to get out (but then easy to repair) I'm thinking of replacing it with an electric one.

Does anyone please have definitive knowledge of which pump is suitable (someone mentioned Citroen Saxo- what model/year?) and if there's anything to watch out for, any problems, any caveats when doing the job?

OK I guess new hoses will have to be fabricated but apart from that?

Any advice, as usual, greatly appreciated!

Thanks and may much Christmas Spirit flow into you!

not sure it is cheaper to convert to electric ?
re con pump = £460 from TVR and it is uprated with woodruff key.
Think the conversion kit to lx is about the same?

Joolz used to do a an electric upgrade/downgrade, as it was cheaper. I think it came from another model TVR (tuscan/T350ish). Not sure whether he still does them or not, but I think it was half the price.

try doing a search for 'woodruff'...you should find something. (search down at the moment)

Wow! Don't jump to conclusions - this is the worst case - that the jackshaft is broken. It could simply to low PAS fluid level - check that first. In my case of intermittent PAS (which made driving, errr, interesting) just flushing the 3 year old fluid through with fresh completely sorted it!

Good luck,

If you look on hte driverside on the engine underneath the exhasut manifolds you can see the connection driveshaft, push the car back and forth in whilst in gear and looking at this shaft if it turns smoothly with the engine then its not broken.

If not then its engine out I'm afraid

Ah ok thanks Matt thats a good tip.I assumed the 'twittering' noise was conclusive, as someone else had menioned it.

The fluid is full; what's the procedure for flushing it please?

Thanks chaps!
