Safe To Charge with Battery Connected?

Given that I'm gonna pick up a new battery next week, I was going to juice my current one, so I've hopefully enough power to start get going, and hopefully top-up fuel with having to bump start.

I've a standard indoor charger unit, not a trickle one, would it be OK to hook it up and leave it for a few hours, or should I disconnect the positive just to be sure?

How difficult is the Cerb to bump start by the way? Its obviously heaver than quoted (quel surprise), but does the size of the engine make it more difficult, or is it quite easy because it has a light fly wheel?

Can't think why not, simply be carefull when clipping on the croc-clips. I think it's best to do teh earth side first. Rich...

No problem, just make SURE the crocodile clips are fitted securely THE RIGHT WAY ROUND, (red to positive black to negative) BEFORE switching the power on at the plug and be careful not to overcharge......

Yeah, watch the overcharging bit, an active battery conditioner circuit is always best. Dealers and indies can fit a system acumate/optimate in, and then you just plug it up to the socket when in garage.

Would absolutely love to, alas our garage is away from the house (we've a town house and with my exhaust having the garage out the back of the house can only be a good thing for our foundations!), so no trickle charger for me

Only plan to charge for three or four hours from flat, so hopefully won't have to worry too much about overcharging, but will keep an eye on the guage.

Anything that gives a charge over 7Amps 'could' damage your electrics/componants.

I would second that and i would not bump start it, as you could damage the cats.

Thanks, that was my concern, will check to see what the output of my charger is before plugging it all in later on.

Just had to bump start ours when the starter failed last week. Not a problem to do when the needs must and luckly it fired first time. Its now having a new starter fitted at my local indie.

Always been told its to do with fuel passing through and igniting in the exhaust system, then damaging the cats.

As I understand it without cats all you need to worry about is being the person pushing behind the exhausts when the car does start
