… fitting my new Leven Technology pedals (Christmas present from Mrs H.) What a difference they make. I went for the extra long reach with adjustable throttle arm too. Now, for the first time, I can get a decent driving position where I am not too close to the wheel, and I can actually open the throttle the whole way without having to slide down in the seat, not that today is the day to test it, with all the snow about. The only down side is that, with all the tweaking to get the throttle arm aligned, I have spent 4 hours in a freezing garage, a large percentage of which was spent upside down!
Next job is to install the gear lever surround (another pressie), and whilst I am in a fiddling mood, it occurs to me that it may just be possible to adjust the bonnet catch so the bonnet does not flap and rattle about at any speed over about 70mph…That should keep me out of mischief for a good few hours.

Spin would have been the operative word yesterday. Ice all down our road.
I have now modified the bonnet catch and frankly, I am rather chuffed with myself. Previously the passenger side of the bonnet seemed to lift by 20mm or more at speed which was annoying and rather disconcerting too. It also rattled.
Having identified that the pin on the retaining rod is considerably smaller than the hole it slides into (ooh errr misus) I have bushed the hole using a "bulkhead fairlead" from a sailing dinghy. Secondly, I noticed considerable flex in the passenger side retaining rod, due to its length, compared with the drivers side. This flex seems to exagerate the movement in the bonnet, as not only does the bonnet move on the pin, but the pin moves too. I fabricated a bracket mounted using the bolt securing the inner edge of the expansion tank. A second fairlead (as used to bush the location hole in the bonnet) is fitted in the bracket and the rod passes through this. This does 2 things: It stops the rod flexing and it holds the rod clear of a fuel line it was previously rattling against.
The result: My bonnet is perfectly located with no movement at all! Yippee!!
Next job: Re-wire headlights so I can see where I am going at night...

This is what I like to see... an enthusiast going the extra mile to 'sort' his baby out...
Jon, as you're doing some interesting things to fix minor niggles, I'd suggest doing picture by picture tutorials alongside, it will be of great assistance to others who cant be arsed without someone giving a helping hand...
