Looking to buy my first Cerb - unsure which to go for - I hear lots of 'only go for the 4.5' or 'only go for the 4.2' but then I read the motoring press who say the only one to go for is the Speed6 ! HELP !
Reading the forums, you all appear to have had many issues, I guess history and background to the car is more impotant than the model ?

Which motoring press was that? It sounds like the sort of press that doesn't know much about cerbs.
In reality there is very little performance difference between them, but there is a good difference in how they deliver their power, their reliability and upgrade ability.
What sort of Cerb do you want. The fastest one, the best sounding one, the one least likely to go wrong, or the one where the engine is still being produced. For track, town, or being a looney on the road?
Probably best if you try a few and see. Most Cerb owners are only too happy to accept requests for a test drive
it looks very, very nice good luck selling her, sadly out of my price range

Dont buy on price or on engine size - buy on history, condition etc... Personally I would look for a car that is known on here and that is recommended by an indie eg APM, Joolz.....
The worst Cerb buyers are those that say I must have x colour, with y wheels, plus n interior, and z lights conversion oh and I must have the biggest engine AND I must get it as cheap as possible oh and I must have ultra low miles...
There are cars at £16K on here (ie the rosso red one) that look like total bargains.
Generally I would say an £18K budget starts to get the pick of the bunch of 4.5s from 98.
The safest bet is a 4.5 (in terms of popularity, tuneability etc)
The same budget also gets you into a much newer S6. Nervs car looks like a bargain. The S6 is the best everyday cerb ie better mannered engine in traffic etc.. The V8s are the better 'race' car.
Look for cars that have done about 6k miles pa.

to tell the truth im not too fussy about colour, wheels or lights, i wouldnt care if it didnt have the conversion or spider alloys,as long as it was a good car mechanicly, its a thing ive learnt from buying bikes,go for ones that have been looked after rather than ones with fancy add ons, those you can add later, yourself.
Thanks guys,
I must admit I like the look of Nervys car - been browsing for a while on several sites, and keep coming back to that one.
Living in Istanbul presently, re-locating back to good old Blighty in a couple of weeks time, so will start the search in earnest.
Anyone got any experience in dealing with Henly Heritage ? - these will be the nearest TVR dealer/ service to me when I get back.

Henly Heritage lost their dealership time back now, although they still do the servicing side.
For servicing and keeping the cerb in tip-top shape, APM is rated the nuts down south, followed by Austec rated the guru in south central, and the TVRCraft team down south for serious engine work/upgrades....

does anyone have opinions on Mole Valley,Austec, or Fernhurst all are within 40 mins of me,Mole Valley about 10 mins but are they expensive?
Not dealt with Mole Valley per se(except when they ran what is now Gatwick TVR, which wasnt a good experience of sales for me) but recommend both Fernhurst (who have looked after my TVRs for 7 years, until I got the cerb) and Austec (who now look after my cerb, respected and knowledgeable indie).
FYI Austec have teamed up with former Dream Machines top sales bod Terry, aka Tuscan Tel, to launch a sales department for 2006. Im not sure whether they have any stock in, but they may be worth a call? I also believe Austec do, or are about to start, engine rebuilds for cerbs, amongst others. Oh, and they also have a TVR kind bodyshop.
Finally on the Austec front, Mark Adams works from there and he and Paul (Austec's owner) are together one of the main cerb tuners, if you are thinking of getting a 4.5 and want it remapped
World domination or what?

I personally found Mole Valley to be class A service, and they dont overcharge. Fernhurst have excellent customer service but I personally found them a little expensive. I have never used Austec, but from the guys that have, I dont think you'll find one negative post to date, Paul (the owner of Austec) is a genuinly down to earth chap, plus they do a lot of tuning work too.
Price wise, I think Austec do the best prices, followed by Mole and Fernhursts.

i meant the branch of Mole Valley in Chessington,to be honest ive called them before and found them to be rather dis interested and thier servicing seemed expensive,Austec so i hear are very good,a friend had an Evo he used to take there a few years ago before they went completly (more or less) TVR, thier a 30 or 40 min drive from me but they would be the people i would be most inclined to use regardless of wether i end up with a Cerb or Griff 500
