Happy new year everyone.

I've spent the last hour looking through previous threads on which oil is best to use - There dosen't seem to be a definative answer. The manual says to use Mobil 1 0W 40 (which I went out a bought 4 ltrs off!) but I know people have different views

Anyone want top list the oil they use and why.

Spants (if your still lurking on here) what Oil did you put in her before me?

I used the 0-40 stuff when I first got ours. Apparently the 0 means that its slightly thinner than say 5-40 or 10-40 at cold start which helps during the winter.

I've now moved over to the 10-40 using a castrol brand that is API rated the same as Mobil 1's but around 25% cheaper. Hardly using any oil at the moment as the engine isn't being worked as hard as when I first got it.

So really, use either. As lomg as your engine pressure seems fine at cold and hot.

the dial normally reads 75 - 80 all the time, haven't noticed it drop under heavy driving but to be honest since i got her(MID DEC)i haven't driving her hard for fear of ending in a ditch

the dial shouldnt read a constant number.
When the car is fully warm (say 12 miles into a journey) then the under load reading might be 60 - 80. When at idle it should drop to say about 40. If it doesnt drop then you need to get it looked at (IMHO). I had an engine blow on my last cerb thanks to someone bodging the spring to give the effect of oil pressure. Still makes me a little mad!

Gareth I used the Mobil 1 0W 40? that was mentioned in the manual.

You should see the oil pressure change - it does read lower when warm and also when the engine is not being stressed....

There probably hasn't been more than 2 or 3 occasions that I've done more than 12 miles in one journey but I reckon that will change today as I have the day off and no other plans

Tony did you have a manual for the stereo (was it a JVC KD S711R) as the speakers are pioneer

try and avoid any journeys that are less than about 5 miles or more. Try and give her 10 plus mile journeys. Any less and you will get very premature wear to the engine.

managed that yesterday with the first 'i'll just pop out and get a loaf and some milk journey - took an hour

Would be obliged if you would give me further info through profile about your previous engine woes.

I travel 16 miles to work each day. The oil pressure starts at 70-80, and is 40-50 after five miles and goes down to 30-40 idling after the sixteen miles. So pretty constant reading but very variable on temperature and load, which is what I would expect.

I would echo those saying check into it.

I use Millers oil www.millersoils.co.uk CFS 10/60. Mainly because its a bit thicker than Mobil 1. I was also having trouble getting Mobil 1 locally, wereas I can order Millers online. I've used this for the last 20k miles.

Also its different, and I do love to be different.....

My pressure is 75-80 when cold and 65-70 when hot. Unless the little spring is clapped out

I'm using Carlube 5w-40 at the moment. My oil pressure is 70 when cold...60 when hot.

LOCAL TVR DEALER SAYS THEY USE MOBIL 1 15w 50.THIS IS AVAILABLE AT HALFORDS FOR 37 QUID FOR 4 LITRES.THE MECHANIC I SPOKE TO SAID TVR USED THIS GRADE WHEN RACING WITH THE AJP8 ENGINE BUT THE EARLIER POINT OF THE 0W 40 BEING BETTER IN COLD STARTS IS A VALID ONE
