Hello chaps

I have looked at around 10 cars now and have narrowed my choice down to 2.

One has the dipstick at the front of the engine (later car) and the other at the rear of the engine on the top.

Does this signify any advatage or disadvantage in the engine spec?

Does anyone have any thoughts.

Cheers

They don't manufacture the old sump anymore (dipstick at the back), so if like me, you manage to hole it, you need to pray you can find one at a scrap yard.

I don't think there's any engine differences, but to replace the sump on the old unit, it's an engine out job, I gather you don't have to on the new one.

So it all comes down to wether you intend killing the sump or not

The rear dipstick can be converted to front for around £60. Front or back, it's still impossible to get a decent reading, I say it doesn't really matter (having had both types). Go for the one with more of your preferances, colour/interior/engine size/service history/mileage/condition (tick as appropriate)

Thanks for the replies.

I was just wondering if there were any other differences between the two engines that are signified by the different dipstick position.

Is it purely just a different sump design?
