Broken boot catch

My loved one came home tonight in the Cerb complaining that the boot wouldn't shut. Turns out the lower catch has broken away on one side from the boot pannel. It would seem to just want re-glassing and looking at how weak the area is, reinforcing at the same time. My wife tells me that there was a ruber cover over the catch that fell off yesterday that she had stuck back on. This seems to be missing. Is the cover just aesthetic or needed to operate correctly? any idea what car the locks from? my tuscan one had ford stamped on it but there are no marks or numbers on this one.

Edited to say, I could really do with a picture of the cover in situe if anyones got a handy digi cam.

Not a useful fix comment but .......
I always close my TVR boots by pushing gently until the catch on the boot lid is touching the boot lock and then I push it closed. The catches are weak.

The boot catch is bolted into the fibreglass ans as you say has very little strength. Mine broke in th esame way last year. I cut and peeled back the carpet cut a small hole in the inner panel wrapped thin wire with trailing around around the underside of the bolt and fibreglassed it all back together form the inside., the wires ensure a decent bond betwen the bolt and the new fibreglass. mine has been fine since.

This very things happened to mine a year or so ago - the mechanism had come away from teh Fibreglass. My local Indie garage did an excellent job of moulding some fibreglass and it fixed the problem, and it's been fine since.

A good indie garage will be able to sort this out for you with little expense

Re-glassed mounting area and added a further three layers of matting which has stiffend the whole area nicely. Rubber cover has definitely gone missing, any ideas where I might get another one?
