another 1st problem

Could anyone tell me how to get the key fob working, Picked car uop on sat and the guy said the battery in the key fob had gone as his 2yr old had been playing with it but just needed some new batterys, fitted new ones still no joy, i've had a look in the manual and it says the system may need re-setting at dealers cos of the rolling code setup, is this correct? have read a few threads that mention disconecting battery to re-set things, should i try this? if it needs to go in will it need to go to dealer or will an indie be able to sort it? thanks in advance for any help.
Also whilst its not possible to lock it should i take out/switch off the main ignition isolator or will this cause probs, not to worryed as it's locked in garage(with drivers window down)

I'm one of those distrusting bastards who doesn't trust anyone.
So the previous owner hasn't been locking the car because of a £2 battery & on the day you arrived he discovered it was faulty, that was unlucky.
At this point, other than taking his word for it, you don't know that it's a working fob. Also did his kid drop the fob, in which case have the locating pins inside it broken ? This will mean that when you press the button the pcb moves & that the button will not hit the back of the case.............
Providing it's a working fob.
Romove the pos lead from your battery, re connect & within a couple of seconds hold the buton on your fob, the indicators should flash a sequence, at that point you should be cooking on gas.
Good luck

If it is buggered then there is a cheap one on ebay at the moment. I think the seller is correct in saying they can be reprogrammed to another car but you might want to check this out first, and of course no guarantee that this one works either but he says it does.

Thanks for all the sugestions, i'm going to take it to ian at middlewich tonight to let him sort it, cos i dont fancy locking myself out in my first week and it gives me a chance to put it on a ramp and have a good nosey underneath it. Thanks again sure it wont be my last problem but thats all part of the fun!?
Problem solved, turns out it had just got out of sync so all is now well, just need to get a couple of spare fobs, which ian said he would sort.
Got car up on ramp to have a good look and i'm on
, chassie mint just the smallest bit of flaking around the outriggers, main chassie looks like new and has plenty of waxoyl on it so its been well looked after, only other probs are 1 drive shaft boot split, osf shocker leaking a little and could do with a set of ht leads so going to see what we can get on waranty. Must admit i was dreading getting it on ramp and finding some major probs but looks like its my lucky day (for now).
