Convince me i need a cerbera in my life

Well actually you don't need to convince me as i've decided i'm getting one - although you can tell me how wonderful they are if you want to cheer me up before i get one :-D
I've decided on a 4.5, what do you lot think?
However, like most of us, i want the best possible, is it worth trying to find one with a red rose conversion done? There are only 3 with redrose on autotrader. Is this rarity worth the premium they seem to demand? And does 20bhp make that much different!?
Ive read most the cars do not make the quoted power anyway and i'm thinking i'd be better off buying a 4.5 and spending what i save on exhaust, filter, ecu and tune up??

Odd thing is the more you have to spend the harder they are to find. What price bracket are you aiming for? You also need to consider the running costs of these cars, bag a bad one and you'll be spending 1,000s of pounds per annum just to keep it on the road, without considering the cost of Insurance, Fuel and Servicing. Take your time looking don't rush into anything and always get a second opinion from an expert. You've waited a long time for the opportunity so be patient. I looked at 16 Cerberas before I found my pride and joy but it was worth the wait. I paid 35k 9 months ago for a March 2003 4.5 in mint condition in and out with only 5700 mls on the clock. She cost 55k new and even though I bought her privatly I know I had a bargain.Take the trouble to do a HPI check to protect yourself.
It's days like today when the weather has been better than of late (sunshine and dry roads for a change)that you really do start to think what on earth you would do without your Cerb.

For the right car i'd spend up to about £35k, maybe more if it was that mint and had everything i wanted. I was going to buy a £50k car but new house im buying is bit more than i wanted to spend so had to cut back on the car. Plus it will be my second car anyway.
I am under no disillusion about the costs of runnig these cars, ive owned a lot of cars which require mega £££ and am used to doing stupid things like changing oil every 3000 miles and spending £10k + a year running a car lol so as for running costs these are not a problem.
Obviously i do not want to buy a sh*tter.
Main thing i'm contemplating, is how much should i "desire" the red rose option? Is it the be all and end all? Or will i get the same by just fitting aftermarket ecu and get it mapped for optimax and a few other bits and save my money?

Is a 1999 4.5 with 30k on clock approx £19k
or 2003 4.5 with 14k on clock £33k
I don't mind spending the £33k and would prefer a newer car with the updated lights and less miles, but is it so much worth the £14k more? £14k would fix a lot of problems with a 1999 car.
Or are the newer models that much better/reliable/nicer than the older models.
Also i think first think i'll do is change the shocks to nitrons (i think thats what they are called) as it seems shock failure is a common problem.

Like you I wanted a Red Rose but there were none suitable at the time. The only one that came close was this one [url]www.evotrade.co.uk/tvr[/url] it was to be my next viewing had I not been so impressed with this one, I now the owner later went on to sell it. You can get pistonheads to automatically send you an e-mail every time a new one appears in the classifieds as a start. Also shop around well for Insurance, the premiums vary massively from company to company.

Chances are that if someone was keen enough to have the red rose then it will probably have Nitrons on already.
As with most aftermarket options, they never command the cost you paid to have them done upon re-sale. I believe the red-rose conversion is something like 7k (correct me if I'm wrong boys), and if you want bhp to be 400+ then you would be better buying one that's had it recently done.
35k is going to buy you a very nice car either way. Keep us updated on your progress.

Just over a year ago I was in exactly the same position as you...same budget and similar requirements list. I eventually found one that had many of the upgrades, sports exorst, nitrons, armorfend etc. along with the full compliment of options possible at the original order time.
During the purchase I ended up getting a Red Rose conversion and It's been great. it's a Dec registered 2001 Light Weight model and had 9k on the clock Full TVRSH.
I think that if you really want a special car then it's worth hanging out for an exact match as getting a retrofit will inevitably cost more than getting one with any upgrades done already.
The hardest thing I found was to find the corect color combination with acceptable spec, so when I saw the one I have now I just went for it. I was prepared to do any making good requried to bring the car up to mint condition anyway.
Oh.. and I think you do get a few more pops and bangs
and you can always get your premium back at when you sell it.
