Overheating?

Hi still got a problem with overheating going a long car temp gauge will stay around 100 deg
stop in traffic will go up to 110-115 fans not cutting in steam from the header tank turn car off and back on fans come in bleed rad seems ok
any ideas what it can be ?

Also buttons on stearing wheel not working in this the ribbon cable if so how hard is it to do and has anyone got the part numbers for it

The fans are supposed to kick in @ 100, but it wouldn't be a suprise if your temp guage was over reading. Hard to know where to start, if you've bled the system, I'd suggest sticking a new thermostat in. You might want to get the expansion cap pressure tested, it's supposed to open @ 120, but if it's knackered it may be letting air in to the system at a lower temperature.

An easy test to see if the guage is accurate.

Run the car up from cold and watch the needle. As far as I am aware, the thermostats fitted are an 88 degree thermostat.

When the needle gets close to 90 for the first time, you should see a dramatic drop in temperature as the thermostat opens and allows collant through the cold rad. If it does this then the guage is reading OK. If it drops when it reaches 100 then your guage is over reading by 10degrees etc.

Plug it in to a laptop to see what readings the ECU is giving. The fans should come on 92/95.

Other things it could:-

Radiator blocked.

You may still have air in the system.

Temperature sensor may want cleaning/changing

Had a similar thing not so long ago and nothing seemed wrong - apart from the steam pouring from the bonnet etc. Turned out to be a faulty/corroded connector on the fans making them work intermitantly. Might be something similar.
