URGENT:Wiper mechanism what car is it from?
Discussion
I just had to replace the Wiper motor for my Cerb. I follwed threads on this forum which led me to believe it was from the original Mini, so I bought the one that was recomended from Mini Parts, and it is NOT the same.
Original is made by Lucas, they were bought by Lapelectric (or something similar) The bottom part of the housing is the same, the top part that houses the gear mechanism is not the same, it is smaller, and has no gears in it, and you cant swap the Cerb gears from your old motor, they wont fit.
Local Motor Factors who can supply anything, could not supply it. It is a custom TVR part.
BTW My Cerb is a 1997, it's classed as having the 'earlier' type Wiper Motor, I dont know when the 'later' wiper motors came in.

The wiper motor for Griffith, Chimaera and Cerbera are definitely bespoke TVR units, which as mentioned above, were manufactured by LAP (Lucas). I spoke to them late last year, and apparently there are no plans to make another batch until there are "significant orders" due to high manufacturing costs v current low demand. The situation may have changed, however!
A common fault can be seizure of the motor shaft in the plain bearing, which is mounted in the circular pressed steel endplate (bottom of the motor) as it is a natural water trap. Dismantling, freeing, cleaning and polishing the shaft, bearing and all the other parts may be all that is needed. Packing the relevant bearings with marine grease before reassembly should help to prevent future problems.
Should you still need a brand new unit, scouring the dealers and indies should bear fruit.
Hope this helps.

The wiper spindle boxes were used on Jags 25 years ago. On my cerbera, the drive cable was damaged and I literally rebuilt it with a cable from a Jag which I cut to the right length and MIG welded the end. In the days when England had a motor industry I suspect lots of Lucas parts were common to different makes of cars.If the drive cable is OK it may still pay to degrease and clean it, then treat it to nice fresh grease.
BLUETHUNDER said:SNG Barratt four years ago sold the wheelboxes at about £12 inc VAT. These were for S1 S2 and S3 jags. I think the differences between alternatives is how the wiper arm attaches. Some wiper arms click on and others are held on by nuts, like my TVR. If you hold the wheel box in front of you when/if you phone (01746 765432) I am sure they will identify the correct part.
Ive put a new worm drive in.Had two new swivel boxs turn up today, but they were of the wrong type.just need a definate answer on what they are from.
