Glowing cats!

Drove into the garage tonight and set light to the rolled up carpet on the floor. Not unusual as I set light to a field with the Chimaera. However, when I looked underneath the cats were glowing red hot!

Is this normal?

I wasn't pushing it either, perhaps a squirt down the dual carriage way but not pushing it by any means.

Has anyone else found this?

you have a problem. your cats are glowing because unburnt fuel is getting there and burning in the cats. you really need to get that sorted asap, but don't drive the car, get it low-loaded to your nearest dealer/indie.

Any initial thoughts on what it could be? I have the laptop software and was planning to get a lead tomorrow.

Is there anything obvious I could check?

Does it sound any different to normal? A major heating problem with the cats indicates that you have unburnt fuel and air reaching the cat. This could be caused by a misfire or a major air/fuel distribution problem (for example due to a knackered cam), but either of these would be quite obvious. Or it could be caused by running rich plus an exhaust leak, but again you'd hear it.

I have only just bought the car (private sale) so I couldn't really say whether or not it sounds different.

It pops and bangs a lot, but no more than the other cars I test drove.

Both cats seemed to be glowing equally bright and the car seems to go well (but then again I guess I wouldn't know as I have nothing to benchmark it against!)

I will get the laptop talking to it tomorrow and take it from there.

Any more thoughts though would be gratefully received.

My first Cerbera, bought from a very doddgy dealer with a professional inspection
having taken place, I drove it away and it almost cost me my life.

A shower of sparks and flames 10 miles later and it was all but on fire on the M1.

If I recall, on mine it was down to the Lambda sensors.

One law suit and a £2000 bill it was sorted.
Scary though!

Word of warning, Heed advice like this, these cars can be extremely expensive to repair.
Its a highly strung supercar, and although cheap to buy---they are expensive to repair.

You are very likely to cause untold damage unless you get it shipped to a proffessional

Thought everything was going too well!!

Never mind, I am fully conversant with the need to keep on top of these cars and will be on the phone to Peninsula later today.

I have a feeling that the report that Walldonway made 2 weeks ago at its service did not make it to me with all the other bills so I've got them to fax it to me. Perhaps the PO forgot to give it to me. Spoke to their service manager and he thought it could be the coolant temperature sensor under-reading and therefore overfuelling.
