Glowing Cats - fixed
Discussion
Hello all
I heeded everyone's advice, well kind of, and got the RAC to transport me home after the glowing cats incident.
I hooked it up to the laptop next day and saw the pot, adaptives and lambdas were all over the shop.
Although the lambdas were not showing a fault it looked like they weren't doing anything at all.
So, I changed the lambdas (Intermotor 16339, £57.11+vat from local motor factors) changed the plugs, which looked OK ish on the inside but rusty on the outside like they hadn't been changed for a while (FSH?!?), made sure the Magnecors were on tight and resealed the airboxes. Hooked it up to the laptop again and reset the adaptives and checked the pots.
Got the adaptives to within 5% of zero and roughly equal at tickover. Not bad for a beginner eh? And it runs as sweet as a nut. Totally different
Then the real problem reared its head as the coolant pressure cap started to vent. The sodding coolant temperature sensor was stuck at 36 deg. Switched off immediately so hopefully no damage. It got up to 100degC I think.
I fiddled with the connector and the fans came on immediately. Had a close look and the connections were corroded. I guess this would have meant the cold start enrichment would still have been on hence the extra fuel and glowing cats? Well it wouldn't have been helped by the knackered Lambda sensors!
Cleaned the connectors and applied WD40 all round and it works a treat now
Just thought I'd share my experiences with you all and thankyou for your advice.
Now all I need to do is sort out the clutch slave cylinder that failed yesterday
