Decat and engine/tunnel temperatures & Front Splitter
Discussion
I was wondering if those Cerb owners who have been running without cats for some time could tell me if they have noticed any reduction in temperatures in the transmission tunnel area, particualrly last summer which was a hot one? the place they are situated, in the tunnel just below the gearbox seems to just compound some of the reliability problems.
last year I was getting oil leaking out of the gearbox tail seal and dripping over the hot cats, which filled the cabin with choking white smoke! It wouldn't surprise me if the heat generated had something to do with the seal failing in the first place and it probably goes some way towards adding to the hot, dead air spot at the back of the engine compartment others have commented on.
Also in relation to heat issues, does anyone's Cerb still have the aluminium chin spoiler/splitter attached? or does anyone know what it would have looked like and what the dimensions where as this was supposed to reduce the airflow under the car and into the engine compartment where it can't escape.

Still have the detachable front splitter on mine just, (well it's in the boot as we speak should go back on later this week after a bit of
), if no else still has theirs I can measure it when it comes back from APM & post sizes etc. Fernies told me that it was to deflect air up towards rad/engine?

Thanks guys, if you could post measurements that would be good!

I can notice a reduction in temperature. I pop my cats back in every now and again for the mot or an event where it needs to be less noisy and can feel the difference of heat generated by them. After a couple of days, I'm glad to see them whipped out again.

How much louder is the car without the cats? I ask as I'm toying with the idea of decatting, but I also want to do a number of Track days this year and whilst I do have a pair of ACT track day silencers, I don't know what level they will drop the exhaust to.

We then put his silencers on and the overall volume dropped by 3dB only but still overloaded the meter on the pops and bangs.
I would have thought the cats were needed for any track days

[tinitus]They are bloody loud with the sports pipes.[/tinitus]
I maxxed out a meter at 131.4dB They sound a bit cack when just trundling along, it just sounds like you have no exhaust, but when you start to hoon, boy does it sound good. It becomes adictive and you find yourself holding the revs higher for longer, does my fuel consumption no good whatsoever.
From my experience, the trackday silencers might just do the job, but to make certain, I'd pop the cats back in. Besides anything else, they look crap when flying round the track, bouncing along like wheelbarrow handles.

Hi Tim,
Dont know if you can remember what mine sounded like at CREAM? But mine's decatted with the standard back box. I had no probs at cream or at Brands.
