I beleive the penalties for having a non standard plate (size or font) are heavier than NOT having one. I'm sure one of the nice Plods who hang out on PH can put you right.
Maybe one of us can xpost to the Speed, Plod and Law forum, I would but don't know how.
Plus I like to keep my head down when reg. plates get mentioned
I do know that as soon as the car hits French roads, the front plate comes off and there is no problem with "Les Dibbles Francais".

Anyone removed the front plate and run without? i got away with it for ages on a previous car and personally I think the front of the Cerbie would look awesome without the plate there.
i ran mine for about 3 months with no front plate, pulled once due to there machine that reads number plates not recognising the new plate, oh and kinfly mentioned the front one. i now have a 3/4 (or slightly smaller) plate on the front.

I got stopped by the cops, quizzed and interigated for 20 mins. Ended up with a £60 fine. My plates were smaller on the front. Tw*ts.
Mick, it wasnt the plate they nicked you for...it was the fact you had a lolly pop sticking from you mouth, and they thought you were taking the pi$$...

hi
noticed the post and i was just about to ask the question on the lotus
forum aswell, i have a modded esprit and the plate is so much of a
after thought on the esprit.
what i say is:-
"MOTORBIKES"? they dont have front plates, so whats the difference.
are there any police on the board that can give the exact law and the
fine situation, i do hear having nothing is better than something dodgy.
i have a "spaced" plate on the rear but police have been ok so far with
it as i dont think its that bad (touch wood).

Got done £30 no points last week for a 3/4 plate.
Plod wasn't listening to any excuses, I was getting done, end of.
It's no difference to the fine with or without. Failure to display correct plate is the penalty and is a fixed £30 no points. Can't understand how you got a £60 doing over kojak?

I got pulled in the GT4 for no front plate, I had been running without for 4 months. I said I pulled into my parking space too far and broke the front plate and couldn't get replacement without V5 so was on way home to get it. Police Man took my address and said he would pop round to see if I had got a new plate by end of week. Never saw him.

so it seems there are a few of you running on no plates then, might
do the plate in the car thing, have a real plate in the car and throw
it in the front window when i get pulled and say it came off but i am displaying it, so least i make the effort. "might work" a couple of times lol. as i only drive the lotus on weekends now
