Windows and alarm
Discussion
Firstly sorry for starting a new thread, but the initial window 'problem' thread was going off topic a bit and more importantantly, it wasn't my thread to hijack!
So, my problem is persisting.
I have managed to close the window but only by removing the door card, 'fooling' the reed sensor and closing the window from the inside buttons.
The problems I have are:
a) the window won't drop when you open the door
b) the window won't rise the last 2" unless the reed switch is pressed
c) the doors are not locking when setting the alarm
d) the driver's door window is not closing that last 5mm when the alarm is set
e) I've looked at the proximity sensor (magnetic switch) but it's impossible to tell if it's working or not
Please help, I'm cold, wet and very fed up with TVRs, I've spent a fortune recently and still things keep dropping off.

I would guess that it is the magnetic proximity switch in the door. If you've made certain all the contacts are good. All your symptoms point to the control ECU thinking the door is still open.
It's a cheap part to replace too, if you buy from RS rather than TVR!
RS stock number is 455-3744, this one has 3 wires though, just don't use the green one. Same one I used last year when my passenger door was arseing about.

Seconded
The old thread was min, and you would have ben more than welcome to return it to it's original subject. Sorry for going off subject, I should really have started another thread I guess.
I am utterly useless tecnically. Is anyone going to be at the Ace thing next week who could have a look at my windows and see if I need to replace the sensor thingys?!

Just changed the proximity swich and hey presto, it all works.
Odd thing is the original switch didn't work when it was still wired to the car (when checked for continuity with a meter) but worked when it was desoldered, very odd, do these things corrode internally, I assume it's just a moving disk inside?

The proximity switch you removed has a NC (normally closed) state. So it will show continuity across the contacts. Only when it's brought close to a magnet will the contacts open. Works the same way as the plunger type door switches on some cars. In fact I fitted one of these type as a temporary measure on my Cerb.
Glad your all sorted now.
