I've been to the south of France and back in my previous Chimaera and had no problems at all - loved the roads and the driving, and I now want to do it in my Cerb, but whereas with the Chim I never thought twice about it, I'm a bit apprehensive about doing a 2000 mile round trip in Cerbie.
I'd be interested to hear any advice or experiences from anyone else who has done this - and not just the disaster stories, even if it's just "Yeah I did it last year - no problems at all" - Put my worrying mind at rest !!

What time of yr?
If hot weather then I would recommend ensuring AC is working!
ALSO I would consider getting your rad recored to landrover far east spec. Cerbs run hot.

Did CREAM and back in a 4-day weekend last Year. 1600 miles ! and, apart from getting hot-under-the-collar in One hour London track jams, she didn't miss a beat.

I'd recommend it without a quibble. Drop by our place if you want to make an enormous dog-leg !

I'm driving to San Remo via Reims & Milan in July (missus has tickets to watch Robbie Williams )

I must admit, everybody I've met has asked "will it get you there ?".

I'm going to make sure I've got some good European breakdown cover, A boot full of oil & the phone number for Hertz.

I've done quite a few 500 mile trips around this country & it's never let me down.

I've had most bits swapped so far, the only thing left is the gearbox & I'm still on the original starter motor.

I can talk the missus into letting me stick A starter motor in her suitcase, but I don't think she's going to stand for A gear box

I did 1000 miles in a weekend with mine to Germany and back. Had it checked over at the garage before I left. No probs at all. Just make sure you check the oil level regularly.

Been over a year since I sold the Cerb, still hurts

Thanks everyone - I didnt think the Cerb was as fragile as these Forums tend to make you believe, and your replies have given me a bit more reassurance. Basically then it's the much the same as taking any car abroad - just get it prepared, take sensible spares along with you, keep your fingers crossed, and go for it!

I regularly did Nottingham to Munich and back, Nottingham to Amsterdam and back, Amsterdam to Paris and back and Munich to Nice and back in my 1998 4.5 without any real problems. As long as you stay off concrete Belgian autoroutes you should be fine (and there ain't many of those between the UK and S of France!!). Just take the normal precautions and a radar detector.

Enjoy the trip.

If all else fails there is now an official TVR importer/garage in Opio near Nice where you could get the car repaired if needed if you have a problem near Lyon just contact me.As you said i dont think twice about doing big miles in my Chim as i regularly go back and forth to Chesterfield and mine is one of those "unreliable" Taraka upgrades that has only done about 6000 miles without any problems.

Go for it.... We went to Le Mans and south of Bordeaux in seperate trips. Thought about taking it to Dubrovnik last summer but put it up for sale instead.
