Does anyone know the best tyre for dry use only for 18" spiders on a 4.5 cerb. Have yokohama 255/35 18 on rear about 3/4 worn, every time car is floored in 2nd wheels just spin need more grip. PLEASE HELP.

Sorry to say but you cant just 'floor' these cars, a little more skill is required.

Best value (And arguably one of the best tyres) is the Toyo - look on Ebay for £85 each for rears!

Spot the most important word in that statement.

I toyed with the idea of R888s but the only drawback that I could see is that I do drive the car in all conditions, and the idea of getting stuck on the M25 in a torrential downpour with next to no grip gave me the willies. I drove to CREAM on my 'wet' slicks (see below) and that tought me an important lesson - get a good all round tyre for everyday use.

All my own personal opinions of course.

I've had S03s in 16" sizes and while they were ok, they tramlined badly.

I've since used Goodyear Eagle F1s is 16" and now in 17" sizes, and they seems good wet or dry. Probably not the ulimate grip, but seemed to work well enough on track days.

Quite a few people rate the Falkens very highly too.

Dry use only? How do you know? Do you trailer it to where you want to drive it?

I've found a big difference in grip between worn & new all-round tyres (moving from part-worn SO-2 to Toyo Proxes T1-S/R) I wouldn't like to get get caught out in the rain on "dry" tyres! (just personal experience, of course! )

Thanks for advice, may try the r888 if made in 255/35/18 or the toyo proxes T1-S/R as may go to some track days, and dont like the sound of being caught out in the wet. (Car never seen rain yet, local use only) Have done one local 1/4 mile run in 13.5 secs good or bad?. Car was power run at 375 bhp.

Am I alone in thinking Toyos are crap?

I had Bridgstones on when I bought the car and now have Avon ZZ3's all round. The brief (5000miles) I had Toyos on the front were awful.

I doubt you are alone in that thought. I like them, I liked S02s, I hated S03s......... Others will hate them. Others like S03s. All down to personal preference.

Everyone's going to have their own opinion, but I've nothing against them. I've found them better than the part-worn SO2s they replaced.

But then again, I never put new SO2s (or SO3s for that matter) on it whilst I've owned it.

Using Toyos at the moment and found them great to use. They are a little skittish in this dry cold snap we are having in west yorkshire but once well warm there top dog. Saying that a good buddy of mine swears by falkens so its one of those its up to you things. There is a point to think about: diffent road surfaces effect tyres in odd ways, so whats good in your area of the woods maybe wrong for others. Oh the joys of driving!

I Had so2 on when i got the car, and they were ok, replaced with so3 and all i can say was they came off after <2k (what a croc of sh*t), if anyone wants them free come and collect. I wouldn't put them on a pram.
Now have toyo t1r and all is well in cerbie-heaven, wet, dry, and moist they stick like sh*t to a blanket. don't know how long they will last , but then i don't care as long as i can get 3-4k from a set i'll be happy.
Went for a hoon up the "cat and fiddle" (well known in north west near Buxton) 2 sundays ago and gave it plenty in moist conditions, and hardly had the back out, only when really hitting the loud pedal did they drift, under moderate to hard braking they grpped and stayed planted and as soon as I saw the exits was able to put the power in without hesitation. I'm told goodyears are also very good value for money, but I'm well happy with the toyos.
