Insurance question
Discussion
If you have two cars insured with the same insurance compnay will a claim on one of them affect the no claims discount or renewal terms on the other? Had a bit of a ding in the shopping trolley at the weekend which is likley to cost a bit more than i want to pay in cash but don't want to find that in making a claim I end up paying in more ways than one. No no-claims on that one as transferred it to the Cerb when I switched insurance company for the Cerb. Am with Tesco now for both. All advice or experience appreciated. Thanks
My understanding is that you are responsible for reporting any change to your circumstances..i.e. you should declare the accident, it should not reduce your no claims but your insurance could still go up because of the accident.
For instance you still get 60% discount but off of a full price £1200 policy rather than a £900 policy.
I think this would stand regardless of whether the cars were with the same insurance, if you don't declare it and they find out (joint database these days make it very easy) then they could just void your insurance. If you do end up paying yourself with cash then it would be very hard for them to find out so would not bother declaring if you go down that route (although to the strict letter of the terms I think you a probably meant to even then).
Don't hold me to it though, certainly no expert. You could try emailing Ph'er "Anniesdad", this is his field of expertise.

if its not a rude question why did you change your PH name, and what on earth does it mean?
Not a rude question but the answer to it's meaning is a bit rude. Changed my name when I bought the Cerb and I think the meaning of the phrase was quite apt to ownership.
