Water Pump Strip & Mod

Anyone had experience of stripping and rebuilding the water pump - assuming the PAS/OP/WP unit is lying on the bench and not in the car? How easy is it to separate the three units and then the WP? If pulling apart the std pump isn't a proposition for someone of average spannering ability - any ideas who could do it? I'm wanting to run a full electronically controlled EWP set-up as part of major rework of the cooling system, and need to replace the impellors in the mech pump with 'blank sleeves' so there is only one pump in the system.
