Lambdas Mil and poor running Help please ...

Determined as I am to get the old girl up and running again ...

get more confused each step of the way!

Managed to get my new laptop working with software (see other thread)

was running fine ... then had a bit of rain couple of weeks ago started coughing and spluttering - felt electrical same as my breaking down ignition lead a few months back .. MIL on permanantly .. big pops and bangs!

adaptive 2468 all over the place reads 37 where 1357 is around 2

lambdas both read bad .. was told one of them was dodgy last service..

replaced both with new based on pistonheads info lucas ERR6729 got 2 new NTK OTD3G-3A1 which is same part??

now the lambdas are both bad intermitantly with voltage going upto 1.81 thus triggers MIL they dont swap between 0 and 1.5 on off they just go down then up a bit???

and Adaptives the same as before...

I know the throttle pot1 is a bit twitchy so got 2 new ones from trackcar .. but dont want to touch those
until the rest is nearer!

If a coil was breaking down would that cause these running issues?

Any help on the lambdas???? dont want to drive it anywhere at all in this condition .. dont want to have to have it low lowdered away!

it should never get to 1.8 volts .. that suggests water in the multiplug generating it's own voltage .. 0 - 1.1/1.2 volts is all you should see

edited to add if it's 1.8 v lambda that the ecu is reading it should be trimming negative ie minus 37% not positive .. the situation of high lambda and positive trimming cannot exists together if everything is otherwise ok.

Water in the ECU or ECU connection, had the same problem last year.

is a spray of wd40 enough to displace water?

Halfwits sell water disspersant spray if that helps at all?

ECU unit should be attached with the multi plug facing downwards, make sure yours is orientated in this way so as any water ingress will not run into the connector.
Might be an idea to give it a blow with a hair dryer then hit it with the switch cleaner.

look at the connectors to the lambdas above the gearox david, that's normally where you get teh problems.

Thanks for all your help guys...

now all up and running as good as shes ever been ...

when I took the cover off the ecu last week there was no sign of water
in it or on the carpets or cables around it.

When I took the plug connector off it yesterday more than a tea spoon of
water drained out ... dryed it with hairdryer and contact cleaner ... reset the adaptives and fault codes
and now all 99% again

so moral of this story ... if your ecu has been taken out by your service agent make sure they have put it
back with plug facing down! - they should have known better!

My lambdas may not both have needed replacing but they are on and working now and the voltages
are no more than 1.25 (were showing 1.8 and lighting MIL!)

Throttle pots next as ones a bit flakey ...
... and oil pressure relief spring (that my service agent said doesnt need doing each service!)

... not as much of a dunce as I make out! ... have realised everytime I took it to
my local I was getting charged enough and the car would invariably be off the road a week plus...

better to do the easy bits myself and pay for the harder bits annually - and or upgrades as required
tuning and suspension set up!

hope i havnt bitten my nose of to spite my face ... my only probelm now will be MOT .. I paid my service agent to
fit their"spare cats" for Mot and then replace them with my decats ... maybe Ill have to buy some cats now!

bit of help from Pistonheads!

There is an MOT place in Rochford Essex that has some 'spare' cats for a 4.2. Its the place where I took my car when I was running decatted.

Goner ring austec monday ... did cyclones POD day last year .. only 2 runs but was ace appart from starter overheating in the queue
and having to be bump started to the line ... how humiliating ...

managed a 12.9 on secon run 13.something on first cos my bonnet wasnt latched properly ... doooh
