Starter motor advice
Discussion
Back in my youth of building engines for drag racing, in the frying pan known as florida where the heat can melt tarmac and the tires that are resting on them... we had starter problems as well, but it was only on chevy motors and never on the fords. the difference was the chevy starter had the selenoid mounted on the side of the starter much like the cerb one is, where as the ford had a remote selenoid. the starters on both engines ran fairly close to the exhaust so the heat was even more intense than the oppressive heat. it was well known among the racers that heat would cause it to stop working after a while. Wonder if it would be worth looking into mounting a remote selenoid and by-passing the one on the starter... unless of course if the selenoid itself actually throws out the starter gear...
You've just reminded me of something.
I was having problems with the original starter button, so Power fitted me a new button connected to a relay (I think) connected to the starter.
It could be that the relay is on it's way out.
That said, this morning the starter made a click, then the second time there was nothing. I put the car in gear, rocked it back & forth & got the click again, followed by nothing again.
Plus it's been making some weird noises when starting (like a whirring sound, after it's fired up)& it's missed a couple of times of late, so I think it's still the starter in my case.

bet that little metro flys!!! when are you thinking of getting a cerbie?
my metro should go like stink when its finished i lost my way a while ago
i should spend some of my cerbera money on it to finish it lol (its 99% done)
only needs a few little but time consuming things to finish hopefully, 900kg and 400+bhp
should be fun,
as for a cerbera i'm looking now but don't have a fortune to spend so i'll have to wait for one to come up in my price range

How long 'should' it take to replace the starter motor??
Been without my car for 17 days now and im 'slightly' hacked off!!
Horizon are fitting my new one next Wednesday, but I originally asked about getting the old one refurbed & the place they use turn them around in 24 hours.
I've bought the new one off these people www.ces-auto-electrical.co.uk
