Roadside Recovery

Guys,

Should be picking up the motor on Saturday (fingers crossed) and want to sort out my roadside assistance immediately (not to tempt fate or anything).

Any preference as to who I should use (AA, RAC etc...)

I know they probably wont be able to do to much themselves but if you have had a good service from a particular
company then please let me know who I should choose from your own past experiences.

I've been with the RAC for years & they have always been very sensible when it comes to any car (if you tell them you need a flat bed, the road side recovery driver will usually call you to find out what the problem is as soon as he gets the call. If he thinks your right, he won't even bother attending & will send a flat bed)

AA for me...they are good...aside from there is always an initial inspection by some one (normally lasting all of 5 seconds as they look at the car and say 'oooooooo')...then another hour wait till the low loader comes...

I would (and do) used the AA. They offer a top up policy where you get parts and labour cover for £65 per year on top of the breakdown policy.

I used them a while ago when my clutch slave cyl. decided to break and they paid for all the work to be done (- excess).

Some of the best money I have spent.

AA for me, plus the warranty (available if you take option 200 or better).

I'd suggest option 300 for A Cerbera

AA gets my vote. Take out parts and labour too.

Have been a personal member of the AA since 97 and a company member since 92.

I have never had a need to complain about them and they've always looked after me. The last cause I had to use them was with a company van just last week. Despite the fact that it was only feet away from my house (immobile) and my not having 'home start' (hey - what can you have at home that you can't fix yourself, right? Wrong) they came out to me free of charge 'because you've been a member for so long'.

All I have is the bog standard membership, but you might want to consider the extras including the option of a free courtesy car.

I have only need the RAC once but they were very veery good.

It sounds to me that either the RAC or the AA are ok.

AA for me too and the parts & labour warranty is a must for only £65. The claim limit is £500 a time -£25 excess but I believe you can make up to 5 claims in a year now.

On the 2 occasions I have used them, I expained the problem on the phone and told them I'd need a lowloader and both times that's what they sent to me.

The last time was on Tuesday when my clutch slave went. I just got home after picking her up. New slave cylinder fitted and all work covered by my AA warranty. I just have to claim my payment back from them now.

Sounds like the AA with parts & labour warranty is the way forward.

Should I go for standard price warranty (£65) or pay more?

There is now only one option with the warranty and that is £65 and it covers you up to £500 max.

For the record I am not a fan of the AA. Called them out 4 times in 18 months and each time has been a nightmare. The quickest response I have had has been 3 hours. 3 of the 4 times they have insisted on sending a patrol man first, and on every occassion the car has needed a recovery!! With the warranty I have so far been unsuccessful with a clutch claim, even though I provided them with numerous similar Cerb examples. Maybe I am just unlucky, but the RAC will get my money next time.

I got a letter from the AA today from now on you can claim up to five times a year on the parts & labour warranty - well done AA say I

I've had a letter this morning aswell, I've currently got the £1000 x 3 claims cover at £100 a year, but upon renewall I'm being relegated to the same one (£500 x 5 at £65 a year)

I prefer the sound of the old one (As my last two claims were for over a grand)
