Picking up my first TVR on Sat - Its going into the Indie TVR garage tomorrow in Harrogate to get a oil leak sorted before i pick her up (this came up in the pre sale inspection). Ive driven the car and all looks well but not knowing anything about these cars is there anything i should look for in particular before i hand the cash over??? Ive thought about nipping down there tomorrow to have a look underneath whilst its in the TVR garage. The car comes with a years warranty but because the cars over 8 years old (97 P) im only covered for £1K per claim.

Good idea to have a good look at the car while its on the ramp. Have a good look at all the metal work etc to check the condition. I use TVR MADs in Bradford and the garage he uses for my cerbera.

If you had a TVR specialist look at it for pre sales then I wouldnt worry too much , but worth looking at chassis.

Ive just been told that i have a slight oil leak..... the TVR garage as told the garage that are selling me the car that its a common problem of all TVR's in that they leak oil from the breather pipe/s???? Can someone please confirm this?

No, all Cerbera don't leak oil!!!! I think the early engines had marginal crankshaft oil seals which were later upgraded which may account for your real leak source - its a big job to replace I think. I'm not sure, but I would get to the bottom of this while you can, and don't be fobbed off by a 'leaky breather somthing or other'!! I'm sure joolz will know more about the said seal though

Hi

I have a 97 4.2 and it has always had a slight oil leak from the pipe that is on the left hand side of the engine going to the air pods on the side of the engine. Nothing major just have to wipe it up every other week.

John

PS to me it's not a leak just where the engine crys a little tear of joy every time I take it out.

At this moment in time they are looking into it (TVR garage in harrogate) - they may have conflicting interests as i think they do quite a bit of work for the company that's selling me the car. Should of more of an idea as to what the problem is later.....
