HI y'all

I am just about to replace my clutch slave cylinder as replacing the seals didn't seem to cure the leak. Probably 'cos I had to put one of the old ones back in.......

So I want to replace the slave cylinder on my 1996 4.2, for belt and braces.

As far as I know (from the PO) I have a late style clutch (done approx 2000 miles with all fingers intact!) and the early bellhousing. Apprently Austec set the threaded rod so that there was just enough travel in the slave cylinder to operate the clutch and not overstress the fingers.

Does this mean I need to source an early clutch slave cylinder or are they all the same. Track Car Solutions and Clever-Trevor only list one type of slave cylinder and one set of seals.

Also, when I took it apart last time the face of the bellhousing that the slave cylinder screws into had evidence of some kind of adhesive. Is this something I should be doing?

Lastly where can I get the grease to put it all together with?

Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Ed

PS the sealing surface on the bellhousing looked OK to me.

Your mention of my name in the title possible over qualifies me!

However, from my experience in fitting all the clutch components to a 98 car which originally had the old style clutch, I believe the slave to be the same.

Mine ended up with new style clutch, old bellhousing, new flywheel and new slave cyl.

But I may be corrected on this, Trackcar would be a good guy to speak to on this to be sure.

Andy.

If you have the later (therefore deeper) clutch you *will* have the later (therefore shorter) clutch slave cylinder in there.
