Cerbera purchase help.

Hello at present I am looking to purchase a Cerbera and could do with some help. Looking to spend around 20K+. What are to do`s and dont`s. What should I look for? etc. I`m totally new to TVR and could get shafted if I buy the wrong one. Any problems with the Speed Six in this model I`ve heard horror stories and big bills. Thanks for reading this thread and any replies I receive.

Read these forums well, V8's seem to be preferable (not dissing the S6), just be aware that a forum like this seems to breed negativity because why would you post to a forum if your cars running great! for 20k you should be looking for a later model lightweight, check out the classified's on PH

20K is a bit of a gap in teh V8s currently. 98 / 99 4.5s go from 17 - 19500 ish. Then lightweights tend to go from 22 - 45K !
So either stretch your budget or drop down a little. eg for 18 - 19k you get a very very well sorted 99 4.5. All based on excellent private cars.

I have seen Piston Teds car in the flesh (Nov 04) and it looked really excellent, on quick inspection as good as any cerb I have seen. James Agger is the god of TVR sales.

Could save yourself some heartache in the future.

As for that car. I'd snap that up if it was in my price range.

That's Ted's own car (i.e PetrolTed high priest and owner of Pistonheads) It is I hear an extremely sorted and well fettled example. Have seen it from the outside and it looks immaculate and certainly in the photos the interior looks virtually unused.

I wouldn't neccessarily say this is the safest bet. You will pay premium price, plus judging by some of the stories on here over the last year or so, you have almost equal chance of getting a dud from a dealer as you are privately. Look at many, from both sources.

Agreed - I have looked at cars at reputable dealers and they have been the worst cerbs I have seen (eg accident damage badly repaired, peeling paint, cracks, scratches etc....)

Many of the cars on this forum and in the PH ads tend to be loved and well fettled because the owners are prepared to spend time effort and money getting them right. You could do worse than to try this approach.

Try James Agger no matter what your budget, he will be able to find you something to suit, and you have the back-up of knowing he only supplies good cars and will always do his best to help you out if it goes wrong (sorry....that should read WHEN it goes wrong, don't be under any illusion!).

i found my 4.5 in a dealers (not TVR), he didnt have a clue what it was, how to sell it or anything, up for £18995. (98, 27k, same spec as Teds, colour etc) i had it TVR assesseed and we agreed on a 4k discount due to work needed.
took the car (after EVERYONE reccomended him) to Ian Lambert in Middlewich to find that there was only £600 worth of work !!
TVr in Cheltenham refused to specify any problems, so we assumed the worst when pricing up, Ian had the car for a week and checked everything, so after cleaning the underside of oil and gunk (breather spitting oil) the seals on both rack and diff were ok.
you should find a good service a huge amount cheaper if you dont use a dealer, but a specialist. i found that they live and breath TVR, not just clock on in the morning and do a job.

Another option would be my 4.5 Cerb. Placed on market last week, used daily - admired by all, garaged used daily and well cared for.
