cerbs this weekend whats the best non intrusive way of checking the chassis i don't want to just turn up with a trolley jack and jack the car up but it seems the only way i might try to look with a mirror
where are the main places to look cheers

Get a good indy to do an inspection. It will cost you a few hundred quid but well worth it.

I have just sold my car and didnt mind it having an inspection on the second veiwing.

Theres a really nice one for sale at TVR Centre in Barnet, which I looked at. 4.5 Y Reg and only one owner! Is in really good condition underneath!
If looking privately what about getting the owner to take it into KwikFit or somewhere similar and give them a tenner just to put it up on the lift so you can have a look??

I'd check the chassis by the exhaust manifolds first by peering down under the carbon boxes with a torch. You might have to disconnect the flexible plastic air pipe though to get a good look. A 7mm socket or flat ended screw driver and 2 minutes will do the job!

Anything else and you'll need a jack to get a good look, because you won't crawl underneath it unless you are Tom Thumb!

When I bought mine I had no tools but crawled all over it. You do get a good idea of how the car's been looked after or not just by a good look. Mine had not been messed with at all so some areas were flaking the powder coat, but I could see it was solid and all would be OK after I had cleaned and re-treated it.

Would second the proper inspection route before you part with the cash. For a first off viewing though you can certainly see some of the vulnerable points with the front wheels on full lock, outriggers also run down outside edges so are fairly accessible. One problem with visual inspection are chassis can be covered in a heavy coating of waxoil or similar but in fact this can often be used to mask a problem, quick lick of hammerite, cover it over in gunk and looks like a protected chassis, you really want to be getting at areas with a screwdriver or similar and give them a good prod to make sure it is all solid.

I've just bought a Speed 6 and got it inspected by an Indy. It's now in with a main dealer being made 'perfect' and there were no additional surprises from the inspection.

Drop me an e-mail if you want the details

Would be interesting to know why it was sprayed. I know there is that red that can't be matched so could just it was badly stone chipped and/or faded and it was an option just to respray completely, equally could be a sign that it was accident damaged and they took the opportunity to do the whole lot? Worth some investigating at the very least.

I to have just started looking for a cerbera. Pref the 4.5
Went to look at one last weekend but it was a bit... shall we say used!.. The wife wouldnt get in it... Well that did it, the garage is looking empty and i think i'm in love again. So basic addvice for a nubee please.
Maybe i should of started a new thread, i dont want to push in on cossiemetros thread.
To follow the thread, always best to let an indy do the work before you buy.
Si-Pen...flaking the powder coat? Sorry but what do you mean?

Flaking powder coat is the white paint coming off the chassis. They all do that. Just want to ensure that the chassis isnt so far gone.....
What is your budget?

iirc the budget is £12k. So going for a cerb of this value in my mind is very touch and go. Could get a chimeara in better condition for that price tony.

Not the chap you are pushing yours towards, the other chap after a 4.5 ltr - £12K is ok for an early 4.2, could get a minter for that if you wait long enough. But really need £14K to start talking turkey for 4.2s and £17k for 4.5s.

there are a few nice 911 c2 about more reliable and cheaper to run i've had one before
so i know what they are like it does'nt help that i'm always at work aswell so i have not been to look at as many cars as i would have liked but hey SUCH IS LIFE

Thanks gazzab. I presume you just clean it off and recover? Is there any inaccessible parts on the chassis that can rust out?
Not sure on the budget as a lots happening, moving etc. But should be around 18 to 20 k. Im more worried about the running, or should i say the non-running costs! Can anyone give me some idear of average costs over a three year period, based on 5-6k miles per year ( not the petrol ). If i go for this sort of beast then it'll be for the long haul.
Have read a load of reviews and stuff, but price aside for the moment, is there a year or edition to be advioded or sort after?

My running costs for my 4.5 for the last two years total under 2k including
a recent major service / MOT last October.

The clutch was changed as part of the purchase package and the diff was done
last summer, which took care of two of the main Cerbera issue areas.

Having had top people like TVR Power and Joospeed looking after her throughout,
means she's always been on the top of her game.

I'm lucky to have sourced this fine example through James Agger and having
sold it once, I just had to buy it back, but perhaps to everyone's surprise,
she may be up for sale, so drop me a line if you are in the market.

Why you might ask? Well I've only been able to get out in the Cerbera twice
this year so far. As we all know, the cars are best when used and my business
is simply not letting me have the time to 'play' so I am looking at something a
little more suited to my current use to complement the other two cars.

When I do let her go, I know I'll regret it, but at least it will have a good
replacement this time

That said - I do intend to have another Cerbera as part of my longer term plans,
but I'll wait for that particular Cerbera to become available, so you won't be rid
of me for good!

Cheers
Graham
