If my car has a sports exhaust. when i bought it i was told everything was standard. its just been down to the same dealer and they said they need to replace some brackets and that its a sports exhaust? it does pop and bang like mad (but dont they all) any ideas

A standard exhaust has a big black box that two shortish pipes come out of.
The sports exhaust will have longer pipes with smaller separate boxes on it ? Does that make sense?

As Gazzb says sports pipes have two separate silencers running lengthways under the boot and standard is one running across boot, besides which there is no mistaking how much louder sports pipes are!

Standard back box is a large (and very heavy) lump (and will fall off, as mine just has !)

They're sports pipes that would explain the loudness then!! how could I find out which ones they are - ther're doesn't seem to be any documentation. so when I was at the surrey rolling road the cerb put out 389.9 bhp - can anyone hassard a guess what extra bhp was down to the sports exhaust. also means I dont have to buy any now - so extra money for mods - i'm considering suspension upgrade (nitrons or possibly these Gaz shocks people are talking about) and and ECU upgrade, either Emerald or MBE. any experience or opinions on any of these would be helpful.

This is a sports exhaust, well one side of it anyway.
as i understand sports exhaust=0 Bhp but= 10 out of 10 for sound.
